It was alphabetical for me and by the way, I only have one page as I have my settings set to show 500 items per page.
Did you have it clicked on 'Sorted by Popular or Alphabetically'?
I click on Plants Database at the top of page
Click on Search by name
Type in Vanda
Click on View all plants in the Genus Vanda
It says Sorted by Alphabetically
I get 6 pages (apparently the way I have my page set up?) and only pages 1 and 3 are in alphabetical order.

Hi Sue,
I also tried clicking "Sort Alphabetically". I have mine set to show 100 palnts, so Vanda is split across two pages. The first looks fine, but the second is out of order (as per my screenshot).

I just clicked on the link Joshua provided then tried it the way you did, still in order for me so it must be some glitch with the page changing, which I don't have.
Try upping your items per page.
I just changed my settings to 500 items per page, checked and it shows all species in alphabetical order! I guess it does have something to do with how we have our settings. Thanks Sue!

Hi Lin and Sue,
Unfortunately increasing the number of items per page just hides the bug - clearly the sorting algorithm works for the first page, but not later pages. You can certainly increase the number of items per page as a temporary workaround, but Dave's going to need to fix the bug in order to resolve the issue properly. Increasing the number of items per page also isn't the most practical option for some genera that have thousands of entries.
eclayne said:Definitely a bug. Isn't the "sort by" a new feature within browsing?
Yes, when browsing by genus you can now change the sort to sort by popularity. I find that to be a hugely helpful feature for my own research, so I added it.
