I have been growing corydalis lutea for years, started off with one plant that has reseeded itself slowly around the garden. When some grows where I dont want it I just pull it up. I like the foilage on this low plant and the fact that it does bloom yellow flowers all season to me this is a keeper and will always be in my garden here it is not overly aggressive. I have tried other corydalis and lutea is the only one hardy in our northern climate.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

I wouldn't expect it to thrive in my soil and climate, but I'd hoped that if I could get just one or two started, they might reseed for me. I've never seen corydalis grown or sold locally. I ordered 3 plants last year. They arrived nice and big and healthy. And they bolted immediately when our real heat and humidity arrived. Hilarious!

I tried wintersowing corydalis lutea last year (seeds from Hirts). Not a sprout. This year I wintersowed corydalis sempervivrens. (seeds from Summer Hill). I have 2 sprouts.

I should beg fresh seeds from someone who grows it. My results might be a lot better. But that doesn't mean they'd survive our hot, humid summers.

I put one in my part shade garden last summer and it bloomed like crazy. This year it is up and blooming. So . . . time will tell, but it seems to be a great plant!

Sherri, maybe you can get me some fresh seeds to try. I'm sure I could find something around here to trade.

Sure! I'm not too familiar with how to harvest the seeds since this is my first plant . . . but, I'll try!

Thanks, Sheri. I've read that seeds need to be sown when fresh. I wintersowed a pack from Hirt's last year and not one sprouted. I wintersowed a pack of corydalis sempervirens this year and I do have 2 tiny sprouts of those.

Could this POSSIBLY be corydalis lutea returning from last year? It's in the same spot where I had planted one last year.

I suspect it's just another volunteer mimosa tree popping up.

Corydalis grows everywhere for me. It reseeds itself sometimes in places far far away from the mother plant. Blooms from May through September per my notes, so virtually all season. I especially like it as a companion to iris, although it can kind of overwhelm them if not thinned a bit. Very jolly plant.
