I don't want to smoke it, but I'll take a drop or 2 in my green tea or even a brownie! Not legal here yet, but it will happen.

I don't know how this will play out in the long term. The federal laws say it's illegal, but many of the western states are legalizing it for personal use. Here in La La land nobody ever paid any attention anyway. Should all the states west of the Rockies secede from the USA?

I think the government needs to pay attention to current medical research instead of basing their regulations on a movie made back in the '30s. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical companies are dumping very expensive opioids on the market which are actually killing people.

I have been experimenting with various cannabis tinctures and lotions since it became legal in Washington, all positive. I find a simple tincture (leaf infused in 151 rum) helps with insomnia and plan to add in other relaxing herbs. I've also been toying with an arthritis lotion, mostly cannabis and arnica, with other pain relieving herbs. In my herb garden, I include cannabis in the medicinal, relaxation, culinary, and magical sections.

Deb, what constitutes a magical herb, what would it be used for? Thx
151 rum would put me to sleep, I wouldn't need any additives😁

My magical section includes herbs with a folklore history of magical properties - garlic to ward off vampires, mugwort for wild dreams, skullcap for the bite of a mad dog (plus just its name...), fennel to repel witches, clover for good luck, etc. Cannabis fits right in, as does Tagetes lucida (a mild hallucinogenic). I find it fun to research and mix them up. I had a very lovely dictamus which emits a volatile gas in the evening that you can light off, but it just up and died on me and is rather difficult to find (looking to replace it). I also had some absinthe which was a huge and sprawling plant, but I have terrible luck with any artimesia and it died before I could experiment with it.

I initially used Everclear as the vector for the insomnia tincture but found that way too harsh on my throat which is why I went to the rum - still pretty strong but not as biting. I keep it in a dropper bottle and only take about a half a dropper full if/when I wake up in the middle of the night. Since I don't take it on a daily basis, I think I will add valerian to the mix on my next batch and maybe a touch of honey to smooth it out a bit. This is one of the easiest concoctions to make - I just jam as many leaves as I can fit into a quart jar, cover with rum, let it steep for a month or so, then strain it.

My herb garden also has sections for culinary, medicinal, insect repellants, relaxation, female issues (aka the bitch corner), cosmetics, and the back is reserved for the tall boys - lovage, helenium, angelica, euphorbia, foxglove. This garden used to be our vegetable garden but was repurposed several years back to herbs.

A couple interesting articles:

It's extremely difficult to do scientific studies on a sched-1 drug, hence the difficulty in getting any changes made to that scheduling.

Well, I still can't grow my own legally and here it is July 2020. Grumbling
I am, however, grateful to be able to buy it legally. It sure does help with my pain. Just a little update from down south. Thumbs up

I'm a caretaker for my Dad who has severe chronic pain from Multiple Myeloma Cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, Zlytic lesions in his spine, other back issues etc. If Medicinal Marijuana was legal were I live that would help him immensely.

It's insane to see that the Federal government considers cocaine and meth to be more dangerous than marijuana. Weed is next to Heroin as Schedule 1? Honestly makes me sad.

@GardenCaretakerJay, So sorry to hear about your dad and the predicament you are both in. Legal here in Illinois, and a good money-maker for the state.
