I grow walking iris in a pot and it blooms indoors over the winter .
Do you think this iris could be grown in a pot?
I think it is a beautiful flower , but sadly not hardy here.

Cinda: I'm not sure about the Dietes as a container plant but I'd think with a lot of sun it would do okay. Here in Florida they are landscape perennials and they spread to form huge clumps. I recently moved and I wish I had dug up a division of that one! Next Spring I will have to check out some of the local garden centers for another one, they are usually in abundance at nurseries and garden centers in the spring time.

I do set my walking iris out during the summer.
I think maybe that is why they flower ? I have never seen that dietes iris here, maybe I should look closer in some conservatories, maybe I just do not recognize them unless they are in bloom. They look quite beautiful in your photo.
Do they have a smell?

Cinda: The plant in my photo isn't actually an Iris, it just has the common name of "African Iris". The plant with the common name of "Walking Iris" is Neomarica.

Then there's the actual Iris (which it looks like there are thousands!): http://garden.org/plants/brows...
