Its suppose to prevent and cure , just about everything. Its crazed, what i've read about it. Before i started saying its a powerhouse.

Philip, how long does it take a turmeric root to send up foliage? I planted one about 6 weeks ago and nothing has happened. I'm thinking that means it's not going to happen, but maybe you can help me on that.

Planting for health - lemon balm, peppermint, thyme, garlic... so far.

I havent planted mine yet. I got the slowes. I read 2 to 3 weeks. Dig down to yours to see what its doing. Maybe it was treated to stop sprouting. If so, go buy some at organic store or maybe whole foods.

I bought organic turmeric. The brand is Melissa's. I just called their customer service line. They don't know if it's treated or not. I will go dig a bit later on and will let you know.

I grow Kombucha as a health tonic. Although not technically in the garden. And not necessarily a plant (symbiotic 'colony' of bacteria and yeast). I flavor it with the blueberries and strawberries from the garden. The natural sugar gives it a nice fizz like soda-pop. Good for the digestive system and a plethora of other things.
... It's one of those miracle workers that not much is known about regarding its benefits. That's because pharmaceutical companies aren't going to invest in research about a potential cure-all that the average consumer can make in their own home for 2 cents a gallon.
Considering Kombucha has been around for more than two thousand years, I'm glad to brew it the traditional way.

Sasha, I grow kombucha, too. Yes, you can flavor it with apples, grapes or any fruit. It's called a second ferment. I bottle it after the first ferment and leave a couple inches at the top. I add a tablespoon of sugar and fill it the rest of the way up (leave a little room) with the fruit. Grape and apple are delicious, as are strawberry and blueberry. Make sure your fruit is cut up nicely. I cut grapes in half. I smash blueberries. I dice up strawberries and apples. Enjoy it! So good!

Philp, I dug. I found the root. It is doing nothing.

I keep it simple. I like almost all veggies and fruits, so I just eat some each day

I do the 1f and 2f as well. Except, instead of sugar for the second ferment, I add honey + fruit (never got into the continuous brew method, though I heard it's easier and more efficient). You definitely seem to know what you're talking about. So, quick question. After a few days brewing the second ferment, it gets nice and fizzy. So I put it in the fridge so I don't have to keep burping the bottles. But as soon as the tea gets cold, the fizz is gone. Flat. Wth? Have you ever experienced that?

The interesting thing is that with strawberries, all the fizz goes into the strawberry. So when you have that in your mouth, there's the fizz! But yes, the fizz goes away in the refrigerator. The cold slows down the bugs that do the fermentation. I think that's why.

If not rotten and no roots. Dig it up and wash it in some soapy water. Maybe wash anti-sprout stuff off ?
Of course, if it has roots, leave it be.

Didn't seem to be any roots, Philip. It was just hanging out there. I hear they like heat, so maybe it's not hot enough yet?

Seeds, tubers, etc planted to early, will just lay there in the dirt, till its time for them to grow.
The problem is remembering where the heck i planted the darn thing.
I've had a sweet potato bulb seed sitting in a box on top of my frig, for three or 4 weeks. It still hasent sprouted yet.
Im gonna get it in some water. Got extra one in frig for later planting.

@greene. Greene ! Jan planted hers, not long after we got it. It hasn't come up yet. There's a gal that i talked to in Arizona, that planted hers, 6 weeks ago, it hasn't even grown any roots yet.
With the crazy weather hear this spring the ground isnt warm enough yet. I planted some squash about 6weeks ago, its just starting to get true leaves. Our weather has been from 60f to 70f up and down every week, and rain also.
I'll get turmeric in ground this week.
My jerusalem artichoke hasn't come up yet. If thats any telling of our weird weather we've been having.
I hate holding off planting.
Usually have everything in ground by now. You've been blessed with warm spring.
