We have a farmer neighbor a half mile down the lane from us. He's almost 90, but doing great. Anyway he keeps us up to date with his weather predictions, how much rain we might have gotten the night before, how the corn will do this year, and so on.
One night we got a light shower, maybe a quarter inch and I said to my other neighbor, let's go fill up his rain gauge tonight. We girls ran through the corn field with our watering can. In later conversations he'd ask others who stopped by, how much rain did you get? How in the world did I get 5"?!
