Hey everyone!
I found a few really cool sempervivums on a uk site but I wanted to check with everyone to see if they happen to have the ones I'm looking at for sale in the United States first.
Also what has your expierence getting orders from the UK? Shipping time? Quality (from mendlen nursery specifically)
I'm looking for
'Havana'
'Tederheid'
'Thistle hill'
There are a couple more but those are a start, and at the top of my list.
Thank You!

I think you have the first one spelled wrong. I think it is 'Havana', no h on the end. It is not in the U.S.
I don't find Thistle Hill anywhere. Do you have a link to the site?

I wish they would give more information on it. Like who is the breeder? Very interesting semp.

Hello Planthoarder,

Have you got in contact with Mendle Nursery yet? I emailed them a few weeks ago asking about shipping to the U.S., and they said they only shipped within the UK. I'd love to get my hands on some Semps as well if they're taking orders :)

- Melissa

Thanks Melissa!
I haven't been in contact with them but that's good to know! There are so many great vendors in the state I would hate to go out of the country. I'm glad I started my search for those in the US. I just need to find Havana and Thistle hill any suggestions?
Thanks
Ryan

Ryan, you might contact SMG to see if he has it in his collection. It is one by an American breeder, Sandy Mac Pherson 1971
I can't find anything on Thistle Hill?

Helen had 'Havana' listed in '69 as "Large deep green incurved leaves edged purple." It's definitely older than 1971, but it was one of Sandy's. Polly grew it but I didn't.

Helen never listed it again as far as I can see. Maybe one she didn't care for or didn't grow well for her.

Hi Ryan I'm curious is it the name that you're drawn to or the actual semp?
Some of the older cultivars see hard to find, or even gone, but also have sometimes been improved upon. For a while I was trying to grow certain ones because I liked the name yet they weren't good growers for me, one example is Olivette, it was one of the first named ones I had so I feel partial to it, but it doesn't like all the rain I get in Seattle so every other year I've been needing to replace it, this last time I said that's it why am I even trying to grow this thing!!
Anyway I was just curious why you are looking for specific semps
:)

I got my Tederheid from SMG. Not sure about the others!

I would love to be able to order from out of the country but California is pretty strict on what they won't allow in Glare an eBay seller from Croatia once had a wild form of Jovibarba heuffelii for sale and I was torn between badly wanting to buy it and figuring it would probably be confiscated once it got to California Thumbs down

Chad this German nursery ships with all the legal permits. The downside is that he cuts off all the roots, ALL THE ROOTS.

Hey Greg I really like the color and color placement on these varities which is why I like them. I love the brown/mocha colored semps, the yellow colored semps and any kind of lime green or orange. Those are the ones I'm mostly attracted to.
Thanks for everyone's information!
Also having a jovi from the wild would be awesome.
I found a few patches of Dudley cymosa hiking in the foothills on the face of a cliff last week. I know it's not good to take plants out of habitat but I just couldn't resist. Big Grin don't judge me! Hilarious!
