For some time I have wanted to put in a small container water garden. After a bit of research here and on the internet I was shocked to discover that one of the sites that I went to for a lot of information (the Water garden) was located locally here in Chattanooga. I went down to the brick and mortar shop, discussed a lot of things with them and decided to proceed with the project. They had a perfect 3 foot diameter container that had some plant ledges molded right in. This container gives me a little over 7 square foot of surface area to work with. I filled the plant with water and added some conditioners recommend by The Water Garden and let the pot sit for two weeks. Picked up plants early this afternoon and placed them in the container. The plants are 1 Blue Pickerel, 1 water mint, 1 Mosiac plant, 2 water hyacinths (will be removed when water lily and mosiac plant grow enough to provide surface coverage) and 1 Perry's dwarf red water lily. In a few weeks I will probably add 3 or 4 Mosquito fish and some type of underwater oxygenator plant. Here is the just planted container. Not much to look at right now but anxious to watch it grow and share the photos with you guys as it progresses. Any advice is always welcomed and appreciated.

It really looks great Dave, I've always thought about one...used to have aquariums.

I like it too. The darkness of the photo or of the container and makes me think: "deep waters"...Enjoy your project !

It's late in the day but the container is 30 inches deep in the very middle.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

2 week update. All plants are thriving. The Mosiac plant has sent out a new cluster and the water lily is about to bloom its first flower. All going well thus far.

Had to share the Perry's Baby Red bloom which is my first ever water lily bloom. Also added a half dozen mosquito fish today.

A little maintenance today. Got algae bloom going. Not bad but I did a about a 20% water change, added some algaecide and a few more nitrifying bacteria and just a touch of a safe dye to darken the water just a bit. Little container is doing well. Will post photo at the next water lily bloom.
