I bought a very nice, 6 foot tall wisteria plant last June (Monrovia). I planted it where I was going to have a pergola built, and the Spousal Unit and I put up a cattle panel for its "trellis". It grew like gangbusters last summer. It's not planted in the best soil around, but I watered it lots over the course of the summer.
Last week the SU and hung another panel for it to climb on in its (hopeful) quest to make it to the top of the pergola and climb around up there. It's just starting to show lots of leaf buds...........I'm really hoping it will gift me with maybe ONE flower cluster this spring, but I'm not holding my breath.
The pix of it all green and growing are from last August.
Ummmm..............you HAVE seen a pic of my new pergola, haven't you? It has pole barn posts for the post part, and 1 1/2 inch x 12 inch boards on the top. A cyclone couldn't topple it, I think a wisteria will be ok.
I think by the time this gets huge and obnoxious, I will be dead and it will be someone else's problem. I think the pergola will be able to stand it for quite a few years..............

I planted a wisteria I ordered online this spring next to a cast iron arbor with a bench in the middle. My question is this. Does that arbor sound like it will be strong enough to handle that wisteria in the years to come
