Since it is May Day, I figured I'd be timely with starting a new thread, even the the April one had only2 or 3 posts. If you have a need to go back, here we were.........

Don't know about all you other peeps, but I think it needs to be rice and cranberries here..........and a boat to do it with!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing but rain, drizzle, misting, more rain, some thunder and lightning, a shower here and there................you get the idea. And COLD............we had warmer weather in Feb. and March!

Our renter's direct seeded alfalfa is looking great (what I can see out my window while I type), I think he got it in the end of March. He got a bunch of corn in too, but it better warm up and dry out soon or he'll be replanting! Crazy weather. My paternal Granny attributed it all to the dial telephone. Yes, she did............."We didn't have any of this till those dial telephones............" It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad and pathetic. She prided herself on never having learned to use it. Thank God there wasn't a time where she would have HAD to contact the fire department or 911.

We've mowed our yard once; I was going to do it on Saturday again, but it started raining yet again. By the time we get to it, I suppose the SU will have to set up the bagger and we can get the renter to chop it.

My pergola got built, finally.........and I just am in love with it. For any that care to see it (from the time I started thinking about it till it actually got done) you can go over to the garden structures. You can find the thread here.........hopefully it takes you to the beginning of it. LOL

All my trees and shrubs have come back this spring (that appears to be my farming now). The Japanese lilac is full of buds, the flowering quince is.........the hardy hydrangeas were..........the wisteria is going to go berserk if/when it warms up, and the trumpet vine is starting to leaf. I do hope the wisteria gifts me with a couple of bloom clusters............I planted it just last year, so who knows. It was a Monrovia, and they always have such nice plants, so maybe it will surprise me.

The Pergola is super! You will enjoy sitting in there relaxing this summer I'm sure. Can't wait to see it when the wisteria is fully grown and in bloom. Trumpet vines look nice on them too, but they can be a bit invasive.

The rain has been crazy here, but the horse pastures are doing well at least.

I have been told that wisteria can be imvasive also.

I have found wisteria to be persistent rather than invasive. I planted it in a poor spot, moved it, and am still randomly pulling up little attempts to recolonize the old spot. It hasn't been a problem. I saw a really lovely wisteria a few years back that had been kept pruned to very few main trunks rather than a spider web of coils.

When my younger son was at that weird age of about 9, he thought planting a wisteria around a person would be the perfect form of torture - death by slow squeeze. I pointed out it would likely take years, but he just liked the general idea I think.

oh how pretty! When we lived in Chicago I planted a wisteria - never did see it bloom.

It is raining here now which conveniently gets me out of cleaning the coop today - we did deep litter method and hoo boy howdy there's a lot to shovel, lol. My hens are laying a dozen a day. I've offered to neighbors but not much interest (eggs are cheap in the store although mine are FREE to neighbors). The last time I offered free eggs online the woman who took them (she said her kids were hungry) turned around and sold them.....
So I'm thinking deviled eggs, angel food cake, omelets for dinner......what else?

Waiting to plant the garden - our frost date is 5/15 but I've learned to wait a few more days and avoid the bad weather that immediately follows the date - every year without fail. I've got plants and starts littering the laundry room this week.

We're still planning to put the homestead up for sale - can't seem to move forward on it though - one tiny step at a time I guess.

Pretty mix of eggs! I enjoy giving eggs away. The family next door has 3 small children with another on the way and Mom likes to bake, so she is always up for eggs. I used to bring a dozen to my hairdresser (which prompted her to get chickens), anyone who comes down the driveway leaves with eggs, both my kids are always happy to get them, as well as their friends. I'm now down to 6 hens and even with one becoming a regular egg-sucking chicken, I still have more than the two of us can use.

Fantastic, Deb. You have a lot of lucky friends, relatives and neighbors. Fresh eggs are the best!

I only spend about $10-15 per month on total chicken care, and enjoy the smiles I get in return for fresh eggs!

I have a Wisteria that started out pruned like a tree, but the main stem died and then vines came from the roots. I understand that they are quite poison.

I think the dark brown egg is from a maran in this picture. My welsummers seem to give me a more speckled egg. Makes a pretty carton

Sounds like there has been lots of crap weather at home since we left on the 15th. We are leaving to come back home on Monday. We fly out of Geneva, Switzerland ay noon Monday. I hope it will not be too muddy to get the tractor up to the greenhouse on Tuesday so I can start moving plants out.

How was your trip? Posted elsewhere?

Ok, boys and girls...........the title of the thread is "A well travelled road.........". My first photos start towards the bottom of page 17. I don't have lots posted, just a fee so you can see a little of what we are seeing. Yes, I know it's not an RV trip.......
