I'm relocating to St Augustine in the next few years and I'm trying to figure out which of my favorite plants I can bring with me.

I've already figured out I can't bring many of my favorite bulbs nor my peonies. It does look like I can bring my columbines and irises. What about Spanish Bluebells?

I moved down fm MD 5 years ago. Northern Columbine will not take a summer down here. There is a FL native that does well. Iris the same. They will decline over a few years. I've never heard of the Bluebells. Lantana becomes a shrub here.

Hi and welcome, koz. May I advise you to look at it as a whole new adventure, and experiment with all the new types of plants you'll be able to grow in Florida, instead of trying to bring your northern (cold dependent) friends with you.

It makes me laugh to hear snowbirds and northern transplant (people) say "oh, I miss daffodils and tulips" when we can grow amaryllis as spring flowering bulbs, and by April here the daylilies are already blooming. We grow annuals here all the way through the winter that you can only grow in summer up north.

Oh, btw a lot of daylilies will transfer to Florida really well, but not all. The dormant type again need more winter chilling than they're going to get here. But we have many wonderful daylily breeders that are based here in Florida, so again I'd advise you to look forward to populating your garden with things that you couldn't grow up north. You're going to love gardening here, but not if you struggle to grow things that aren't happy in the warmth.
