All About Horehound

By wildflowers
December 2, 2011

A nice hot cup of horehound tea with honey and lemon and a warm slice of banana nut bread covered in melted butter. That's one of my fondest childhood memories. With winter and the holidays just around the corner, I'm reminded of horehound and what a special herb it is.

Thanks for the memories! My grandfather always kept horehound drops and swore by them. As a child, I didn't like them very much. As an adult, I appreciate them a lot. It's good our perspective changes, isn't it. I must say I haven't had horehound tea. I'm going to try it. Just my cup of Tee. Green Grin! Thanks for a good article, Christine. Green Grin!

Loved this article!! and the recipes. I am thinking that I am going to have to add horehound to my elderberry syrup. What a great winter remedy!

For me, horehound was definitely an "acquired" taste. I think putting it in syrup is a great idea ... or homemade jam ... or ... ? Possibilities and food for thought (no pun intended). Green Grin!

I love horehound. I ate it like candy, still do when I can find it.
I used to make my own, but it's just so much easier now to go to Cracker Barrel.

I remember them as a special treat when we went to the farm store when we were kids. Not everyone liked them, but I sure did. I guess I'll have to make a trip to a Cracker Barrel one day.

They were a special treat in my childhood, but somehow, I don't think the grandkids would think they were so special if I made them some. LOL Oh well, I think I'll make a batch anyway!
