Memorial Day weekend is going to be a good time to buy needed garden goods. It's also an Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday. Applicable dates are May 27 -29, 2017.

This link pretty much outlines what qualifies.

A link regarding ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday is interesting in that it points out that there are other charges that affect the sales prices.

'Delivery, shipping, handling, and transportation charges by the seller are part of the item’s sales price. Charges for installing free-standing items are also part of the item’s sales price. If the item you buy is not taxable, then these charges are not taxable.'

@ShadyGreenThumb - cool! That was quite a score!
I didn't know about this weekend until earlier today when I heard a brief mention of it on the radio. I'd better make a list so I don't go too wild. But I always seem to misplace my lists and it's only money after all.

I see this year does not include dryers but includes Air Conditioners. Also some water saving items.

Sometimes I have to remind myself when I'm buying small items that I have to spend $100 to save $8. But if I were to make a major purchase, well then that's a whole 'nother ball of wax.

I do have some stuff that I need - hoses, mulch, etc. Maybe I'll end up saving $8.

Is this Tax Free sales weekend only in Texas? I know there are some states that don't charge sales tax on clothing every day.

No idea. As I said, I only heard about it yesterday. I wish I'd heard sooner so I could call the TX Comptroller's office for some specifics.

No tax on clothes every day??? Heckuva deal!

yeah as far as I know NJ, AK, MN, PN....tax free clothing with limitations. Texas has tax free clothing, shoes, certain school supplies in August around the 24th. I use that sale to stock up on undies, sox, hose for work, and other basics.

Thanks @ShadyGreenThumb.
The lists don't make a lot of sense to me. The fans, for example. Ceiling fans are ok but not attic fans. (Anyone who has ever had an attic fan aka whole house fan would know how wonderfully efficient they are.) In the meantime, I've been wanting to buy a small portable fan. No mention of those.

Or then there are the lightbulbs. I didn't think that incandescent ones were energy efficient. (Yes, I watched the little video.)

I wish I'd been paying attention and learned about this sooner. There are some items I would have liked to price and also find out about installation prices. Oh, well. Maybe next year.

I did buy some potting soil today but need to buy some other garden supplies. And avoid getting anymore 'pretty flowers' that are sooooo tempting but I don't know where I'd put them.

I do know about the sale in August. And for some reason I seem to always have plenty of advance notice on that one.
