A new month, and let's see if anyone looks to see what us farm peeps are up to.

We were gone for almost 3 weeks..........well, gone for 3 days, back home for 12 hours, and then gone again for 2 weeks. Sounds like the 2 weeks was a great time to be away...........we were told it rained every day but one while we were gone! Where did we go, you ask??? The short jaunt was to the NASCAR race in Kansas City. The long one was to visit my sister in France. Yes, we did have a wonderful time!!!!!!!!

The guy that rents our farmland had a whole pile of hay mowed that we saw when we came home from KC...........I guess he did get that all chopped. He hires another neighbor (also a "big" farmer) to chop with his big Claas chopper. They come in and merge the windrows, and he chops in road gear. Rolling on the floor laughing Oldest DS said that it only took them 2 days to get it all chopped and in the bunker. I am SO glad that we do not have to worry about all that fol-de-rol anymore. I can just go park my bee-hind in my swinging chair in the pergola and listen to my wind chimes. Green Grin!

We are kind of hoping that the renter will bring some heifers over for the pasture soon. There haven't been any here for 6 months. The SU kind of liked not having to deal with feeding, etc. during the winter.

The first half of May was pretty decent and lots of corn got put in during that time.

My yard has been mowed 5 or 6 times already. I've been writing down in my pocket "bible" (appointment book..........LOL) each time we mow; I've always wondered at the end of the season just how many times we did mow. DS and DIL mowed twice while we were in France. I mowed yesterday. My Cub Cadet has a problem and I only got the yard around the house mowed with it and I had to finish it after I got home from work with the SU's piece of excretia Great Dane. Jeez...............I HATE that mower. But it is done.

The SU has been helping another neighbor with hay the last 2 days. He said he might have to go down later this afternoon and chop while his hired man does barn chores and the milking. That way they can keep chopping and they might get the silo full today.

I've been moving plants out of the greenhouse.........(is that farming????)..........hope to be able to get most of them out today and finish that job. I also have 2 deliveries of plants to make back to their homes.............those 2 clients didn't want them back till I got home. I'm sure glad we got all the others delivered, as I did NOT need all that staring me in the face when we got home.

The land in the airport is rented by farmers to raise crops. I noticed that they have re-planted the field. They had planted the corn just before that really cold wet spell. Guess it all rotted, as they went over it with the chisel plow and now planted it in beans. Finally getting some weather suitable for making hay. It was getting pretty tall and mature around here.

Yes, it is a haymaking frenzy around here too, but we are not that far from each other........45 miles, maybe??

I FINALLY got all the plants out of the greenhouse. Now to just get the last few set where I want them.

France?!! Are you posting pictures of your trip :-). Sounds like there is no shortage of chores around your place.

I am cleaning the barn and coop today - racing to get done before the heat arrives

Hm, no, I haven't started a thread on it. Just kind of putting a pic here and there if anyone expresses interest. Here are a couple..........

My sister and her hubby when we were out hiking the first day. I think that one is enlarge/frame worthy, as is the one with the tree branches framing the mountain.

The other 2 are the same view, only zoomed in a little bit.

Ooh! How wonderful! Meanwhile I am waiting for the tractor mechanics to show up. I have a lot of pastures to shred as we have been having a we spring (feels like summer). The tractor has been leaking coolant. I replaced the radiator hoses - about the limit of my expertise - and it still leaks, from the water pump, I fear. Then I was starting it to do a brief chore for which it would not leak too much, and the battery exploded! I cleaned up the mess and put a new one in, which is a royal pain in this tractor but still within my skill level, and it now runs at half power ( !?! ) I seriously need professional help, but it is like waiting for Godot!
