Here is my Sunset. It is actually a shade more chartreuse and the tips are redder than this photo shows.
After doing a lot of looking on the Euro sites, I think it probably is a species but it is not the one pictured from Val Minera by Banker 07 on our page.It is not the one on Sempervivum list which is also different than Banker's photo. It does have red tips but they are not the fire engine red in Bankers pic and they do not extend so far down the leaf. Mine does not change color in winter like the one on the "Liste" Bankers photo also shows a somewhat "flatter" form. My Sunset is almost round like a ball. The base of the leaves in Bankers photo are almost yellow where mine is chartreuse green. I have Royanum which is also a wild collection that somebody decided to name. It is flatter in form, like Banker's photo, it is a paler green color and has very small dark tips. I bet there are many many variants of tectorum in the mountains of Europe. I saw how native species vary from one cove to another in the mountains of North Carolina. I can only imagine what potential there is for variance in the mountains of Europe. I will take some comparison pictures later today which I will send from my phone. I have to go to market now. I think my Sunset came from Squaw Mountain and has not changed at all over many years. Still just producing 3 chicks per year I need 50 stock plants at the rate that I can sell them.

Ricos your plants don't get the full several months of freeze that the plants in Germany are getting so they won't have the same brilliant red. The tips on mine turned very bright red a few years ago when we had nearly a month of full on freezing temps right after rain so it was sitting completely covered in ice... Just guessing a reason as to why your plant might look different.

Here are a couple of recent pics. Good thinking on the cold aspect but I have had this variety for 20 yrs. It ha been down to minus 10 F degrees and stayed @20 F for weeks here south of Oly away from the water. It stays the same color summer and winter and is not as flat as the species fr Val Minera. I think there are pics in data base (with your name on them) which show piles of small babies piled up like a calcareum ... very unlikely tectorum. Even the old "green one" tectorum, which does produce lots of chicks, puts them out on thick stolons. My Sunset does well to make 3 chicks per year and they are on thick visible stolons. I will try to get some more photos tomorrow.

Rico's mine tend to be crowded in hence the stacking, clumping effect. They have pink stolons like yours.

Also I got one from a big box store and one from Goldfinch4 and they're identical. Don't have any idea how long they've been in production but mine always sends out lots of chicks

Greg.... so sorry... those are not your pictures. Mine is closest to Bankers photo, just not so much red at the tips. It is never cup shaped, never has an indented dark center and is never blue.I wish it had tons of chicks. Lynn I am wondering what was your source for that one which looks much more like a calcareum in both color and shape as well as habit habit.

If you see it in person it is not a calcareum. I'll try to get a current photo for you.
