I always look for stuff on the side of the road on garbage day. It was easier to find great stuff when I lived in the city of Schenectady where I found this oak 6-sided table top. I held on to it for years. Then I got a push from a boyfriend I was living with "Do something with it or I am throwing it out!"

I got a pattern from Plaid called Wisteria. I purchased the Gallery Glass Window Color paints called for by the pattern. However, I had to modify the pattern to fit the hexagon. I used Plexiglas instead of glass because It was easier to cut for me and light weigh. We lived in an apartment and I never stayed in one place for too long. Plexiglas is not easy to cut but I could hide my mistakes with the faux leading.

Luckily I've only moved one more time since that apartment and that was into my own home. The piece however, has been moved all around the house.

Its easy for me to believe in miracles when science can't explain why a blade of grass has its shape and that is just one plant and one attribute.

Hurray! I agree It's just beautiful and finding that table top was quite a coup! I also love to pick up trash to turn into treasures, but have never found anything that nice! I love what you did with it, and hope you will show us more when you have a new project.

You're welcome! I have thought about trying the glass paints, but I'm no artist. I might be able to paint from a pattern! nodding

Your gallery glass piece is beautiful. I have done a few small things using gallery glass paints, my DIL did their front door. Really is a nice way to get great results.

Plaid the company that makes the Gallery Glass paint no longer makes the multi-layered stencils I have. I have another called Grapevine. They were too complicated. So you can find stencils at any large craft store or on-line.

Go for it!

I misspoke here about the type of stencil used for "Wisteria". First, it must have been some kind of kit or I would not have known what colors to use. Stained glass patterns are drawings set behind the glass/plexi so one can trace. The multi-layered stencils are for wall art. You can still find those on ebay.

Here is an example of "grapevine" without the grapes:

I just spotted this thread and I LOVE that table top! And I have a couple of small glass topped tables that originally had a hummingbird pattern on them. Now I know what kind of paint to get to fix them!

Leather is a good way to decorate and incorporate our love for the garden. An expensive hobby, but unlimited possibilities

When ever possible I try and work orchids into my works.

@Mdntnmtgmy, very nice work! I did some leather work when I was a child, but haven't done any since then. I love that you use orchids in your works!

@plantmanager

Thank you, soon i hope to do a few pieces as wall art of strictly orchids.

Leather definitely takes patience and knowledge but once ya figure it out it's certainly fun.
