and to answer Marilyn's question , this is how I did it
with a free basic photoshop like program (for windows PCs only) called Photofiltre 7 ,
to crop each picture (trim them square) ,
resized each picture ( so they were the required 150 pixels high ) ,
created a new blank white document / picture 1500 x 150 pixel background
copy and pasted all the resized pics on the new background as layers ( so i could move them around until I was happy with the arrangement) ,
then merged them all into one photo (flatten the many pieces into just one piece) ,
I then saved as a jpg file
