Tomato Plants for Free

We were all taught to remove the lateral shoots when growing tomato plants. This is the shoot that appears in the axis between the stem and leaf, also known as axial shoot, sucker, etc. The removal of these shoots would enable the plant to put all of its energy into fruit production. We were advised to pick out and discard, but not anymore!

Just put some suckers in water and will see what happens. Although one of them is only about 2 inches long, so it may struggle.

After many years of raising Tomatoes, I read about this recently. I now have several good-sized plants that I have grown from suckers. Most will root within 7 to 12 days but occasionally some just will not.
