I just had an update from Windows 10 that messed up all the settings on my computer. So I went on Google as I always do to get on the iris forum. I immediately got the "your connection is not private" attackers might steal your information statement, and it makes you go back to safety. It also gave the following: NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID

Is it a site issue or has Microsoft messed up this too? I can get on via my phone. - Leslie

Never mind, it is a combo of the update and then my wireless provider making firmware updates that block you from the internet until they are finished. Why it created error messages though is very strange.

So THAT'S why I kept getting those error messages! Good to know, Leslie. I thought I'd done something foolish. Big Grin

From your first message, Leslie, I'm making a guess that the update your received for Windows had something to do with the certificate store. Web sites use certificates to prove who that they are who they claim to be and that the connection is secure. The operating system (i.e. Windows) has a list of trusted certificate authorities, so when a website identifies itself using a certificate signed by a given authority, Windows will check it against its list and see if it recognises it. If it does, all well and good; if it doesn't you can get a number of different error messages.

Joshua - I agree. The error message was definitely about certificates, but I have never had a problem with this site's certificate before. Fortunately it has gotten worked out.

I would suspect that if you had checked other websites signed by the same authority (which would have been a case of trial and error, since I am unaware of any public list of signed certificates) then you would have gotten the same error message, but it sounds like the Windows updates have been installed properly now.

Further thought: seeing as Philip is reporting similar issues on his phone (The thread "Danger. Danger. Mr. Ranger." in Site Talk forum), I wonder if instead it was Google Chrome's certificate store and that the browser itself was being updated. Were you using Chrome, Leslie?

Yes, I was. My phone corrected right away, but I didn't get to fix the PC until after the firmware update.
