I have recently posted some pictures of Tagetes patula that I've grown for years and years. There's no particular variety or cultivar, they're just Tagetes patula from Mexico. When I went to identify one of my pictures as "Tagetes patula" I got the option to choose from 20 or so cultivars/varieties and not just the species "Tagetes patula."

Am I doing something wrong here? How do I get it to be just "Tagetes patula" without any variety/cultivar listed? If anything they are my own cultivar because I've grown them for years.

Hi Jai,

What I do when there are too many cultivars that match my search is to find the one I'm after in the database separately and open the page, i.e.

If you look at the URL you'll find there is a number in it - in this case 611496 - which is the id of the plant. You can put this number into the search field when you want to attach your photo and only that plant will come up in the results.
Plant Authorities: Catalogue of Life (Species) --- International Cultivar Registration Authorities (Cultivars) --- RHS Orchid Register --- RHS Lilium Register
My Notes: Orchid Genera HTML PDF Excel --- Lilium Traits HTML PDF --- Lilium Species Crosses HTML PDF Excel --- Lilium Species Diagram
The current profile image is that of Iris 'Volcanic Glow'.

Where you trying to import them from a post? If so, the drop down menu is limited as to what it can display.
Find the entry within the database first, and what I do is copy the Plant ID number found in the left side of the entry (or in the URL) and copy it and then paste it into the search box for moving your photo and select the plant when it pops up.

I think this doesn't work on some devices which is probably where my error came in, without realizing it. Thank you!

Confused I essentially wrote the same thing as Joshua did.
All the steps work on any device.

What's weird is that I didn't see your response on my phone at all--I only saw it on a desktop. Lord knows what I managed to do wrong. lol
