How to create a wasp trap using empty water bottles. The idea behind it is, the wasps grab a bite to eat, then fall into the soapy water.

I make the home made yellow Jacket traps and place them near my bee hives so my girls do not have to spend time fighting off robbing yellow jackets.

With mine you need any kind of bottle or (milk)jug. Use a 3/8 inch drill bit to make a hole in the side of the jug near the top. Fill half way with dollar store dish soap and water. Remove the cap and smear jam around inside the 3/8 inch hole you drilled then replace the cap.

Yellow Jackets go in to get the sweet jam can't find the hole to get out and tire then fall in the soapy water and drown. The soap removes the waters tension or you could use plain water.

No the honey bees do not go in the traps because they are not scavengers like yellow jackets.

I use applecider vinegar, some dish soap and water then put something sweet near the entrance of our purchased trap. We have lots of yellow jackets which I am allergic to, my mix works so well the trap needs to be emptied quite often. We have what we call paper wasp because their nests kind of look like paper, seems like the trap does not attract many of them like it does the yellow jackets.
