Linking to a different website is different than posting pictures.

If you want to post pictures you can do so right now but clicking the upload a photo button.

For posting links to other sites, you have to have been an active member for 14 days.

Much better to upload it here. I am always leery to click on any outside links for photos.

I agree. If you have the pics in your computer, you can easily add them to your posts.

Problem is I don't have pictures in my computer. Did many many years ago and it crashed and I lost a bunch of pictures. Now I use shutterfly, photo bucket and picture trail to store my pictures safe and sound from computer crashes. By doing that I also don't have a lot of stuff on the computer slowing it down.

14 days is nice to know.

Even after waiting 14 days and posting links so folks can see your photos, many people are reluctant to click on links that take them away from NGA. You can add the photos to your computer, then save them to a USB stick to prevent loss. When you want to upload an image to NGA just stick the USB in your computer, grab the photo and post it here. Lots more people will actually see the images. Thumbs up

You can download your photos from the cloud to your desktop, upload them to NGA, and delete from your PC. A lot of steps, I know, but doesn't really take long. I'm one of those people who rarely click through a link to go somewhere else unless it's really something I'm interested in. I would most likely not do so just to view a photo. I go to the database to look at photos.

I am happy to click through to links, but it will depend on the person.

If you are going to upload a photo from another site, try to get the permission from the owner. It's also a good idea to cite where it came from (i.e. a link back to the source page) so that you credit the owner (it also enables people who are interested to have a look at it in case they want more information).

Most all my pictures are on Photobucket but they are doing some crazy stuff with some people I know. It is to the point I am trying to down load all my pictures back to a flash drive and a totally different server.
I also have a bunch on shutter fly who recently made changes I am still working on figuring out.

Feel free to ask questions if you need help - there's the Garden Photography forum where I'm sure a number of members would be able to recommend a good hosting site.

I can understand the issues with Photobucket - I do have an account there, but don't use it much due to difficulties with their user interface. Used to have an account with ImageShack before everything became a paid account! These days I make sure I have everything backed up on DVD/Bluray in multiple copies and locations, with a working copy on my NAS when I want easy access to photos.

Also, a belated Welcome! to the site (sorry for forgetting to welcome you in my earlier reply)!

Good reminder about keeping the backups, Joshua -- I think most of us would find it quite devastating to lose all of our photos!
