The name definitely fits the flower!
On my way to repot babies and spotted this beauty! As much as I lament the flowering stage (Vale, Semper amicis!), "strawberry velvet," trés spectactular!

That was one I named as a kid! The flowers were the inspiration for the name too!

Bev,

I'm sure I never reached her lofty expectations but I don't think I disappointed either!

Anyway, she did approve of my work with plants and enjoyed seeing the new ones that I created. Haven't found just the right semp to honor her but I did name a hosta for her.

Very nice Photo Tiffany.
Kevin . I like the way Strawberry Velvet produces darker rosettes that are the flowering ones. Often wondered how it got that name.
Which hosta?

Kevin, Nice to meet you, and that's so cool!!! Had no idea it was one of yours...Aptly named! It's the first time I've seen it flower and an image came to my mind of Strawberries & Cream when the blooms opened. Very unique! I have so many questions.....

Tiffany, maybe you can come to the Hybridizing Clinic next spring, here in Salem, Oregon? You can ask all the questions you want. Hurray!

Tiffany,

Patty Drown and I both obtained some unusually-colored flowers in our seedlings years ago. Her "Tamberlane' has an odd shade of pink in its flowers and my 'Greenwich Time' has sort of green flowers flushed pink. These are both montanum X non-montanum crosses. 'Lipstick' has pretty pink flowers too. It's from open pollinated seed of 'Silverine', but I'm sure the pollen came from 'Cleveland Morgan'(probably a selection of montanum).

The clinic is fun and there are 3 other semp crazies from WA that have been regular attendees. In fact, I can't imagine the clinic without them.
