What we have been having most of the winter(?)is more like late fall or early spring. K.C. weatherpersons say it is our driest winter on record. We had a nice soaking rain last night. The sun is shining nicely today. Some wind, mostly just enough to keep the garbage from starting to burn. Sheila even sacrificed part of a cigarette to try to get it started. She put it inside an envelope surrounded by other dry paper so it could get a good chance of catching the paper on fire. We had 3 kitchen size bags that needed to be burned.

I have a Fire Island hosta that just will NOT grow. It looked find during the early summer months but suddenly just disappeared. I kept watering it and finally dug it up to see if it was even alive anymore. There were some live roots and a tiny spot of green where the crown is but that is it. I potted it, fertilized it, have kept it in an unheated room all winter and it still has done absolutely nothing. I don't know what its future holds. As long as I see life I'll do all I can to encourage it.

We have daffs and tulips trying to come up! There are some of those and a few prized iris under about 4' of fresh wood chips so they need to be uncovered soon. We got 3 big truck loads of shredded wood this weed from the company who clears under the electric lines around this area. Our area gets trimmed about every 3 years so just about the time we run out of chips and the good dirt they rot down into they start bringins us more. This is the most we've gotten in several years tho. So far I think they have brought about 8 or 9 loads. That's a lot of wood chips. Big Grin

Must go do more housework and laundry. GOD bless and keep each of you.

It's definitely cooler now, right? Rolling on the floor laughing It got so cold so fast that I'm not even sure if I could pull a weed if I had to! We have ice on the lake this morning, and I don't think I've ever seen that in November. Blinking

The storm cells split just before they got here and went around us...it was a terribly dense line of strong storms before that though. Mom was in a Fort Wayne hospital and they moved patients out into the hallways away from the windows, but the worst of it missed them. We were watching what happened to the Peoria area on the television before we left to come home. So sad...

Reviving the weather thread to say brrrrr! We're having below-average temperatures and a lot of snow up here in Michigan. I hope you're all keeping warm!

The walkways were clear at 4 pm, but when I went out to walk my dog just now, it was over her head! Some is drift and some is freshly fallen, but there was more than two feet of it. My husband is out shoveling again, and the snow is forecast to keep falling all night.

The road out of here was open today, but look quick 'cause it'll fill up again with the next bit of wind. Rolling on the floor laughing Each time the county plows, the added height of the pile adds to the overall depth that it'll fill back up. Hilarious! It's certainly interesting living in the Midwest, isn't it? Whistling

Our road was drifted closed again this morning so everyone's home today, but this afternoon I was out shoveling in a sweatshirt and tank top and I was too warm! Rolling on the floor laughing

There are 5' drifts on the uphill side of our lowest room, so I'm trying to dig some of it away before it rains. Blinking I'm more than a bit worried about serious flooding this spring.

I, for one, am thrilled that it's thawing! How exciting it will be to finally see the ground at the place I've been living for three months! Hurray!

I hope none of you get serious flooding. I just moved from an area with severe coastal flooding, and hadn't really thought about it so far inland, but all that snow has to go somewhere. Thumbs down

Hey, Bit, how are you getting along? You managed to end up with one doozy of a winter for your first in the North!

The solid wall of white outside my picture windows has thawed just enough to see over it now if I sit forward in my chair a bit. There's an injured (limping) deer out on the lake this morning. It's been in that general area for at least a week now. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for it to try to move about in the deep snow. I'd like to try to sled some food out to it, but even I'd probably need snowshoes to get out there.

Hi Chelle, I'm hanging in there. I wasn't so sick of winter until two weeks ago, when I put my car in a ditch and had to wait seven hours to get winched out. Now I'm most definitely ready for the ice and snow to be gone. I will be so happy when gardening season returns.

Sorry to hear about your deer. That must be tough to watch... I have too much of a soft spot for wildlife, I'm not sure what I'd do if I saw one out my window in pain.

Yeah, I still need to call AAA to complain. I've been putting it off because I don't like confrontation. The driver was unprofessional, and I got the impression that they hadn't planned on coming at all (despite confirming it with AAA multiple times over that seven hours) until the police were involved. It wasn't a fun day for me.

On the plus side, my dog really loves the snow. I can't be too grumpy about trudging through it up to my knees when she's neck-deep and doesn't have a care in the world.

Heh-heh...you know it's been really cold for way too long when it soars to a whopping 25 degrees (with sun) and a sweatshirt feels like overkill. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
