Another update to the Plants Lists feature was just uploaded. New features:

1) You can now invite discussion for plants in your list. When you edit a plant, you'll see a checkbox that says:

"Invite discussion from other members about this plant?"

If you check that off and save the page, then members can post threads to your page.

Scroll to the bottom to see the thread. New threads to your list automatically get added to your watched threads, so that you don't miss any new comments posted to your list. The default for each plant in your list is that this is disabled, so if you want it, you have to check it off for each plant.

2) Weed Reports. When you edit a plant, you will now notice a "Weed Report" box. Click the + icon in the box to see the full report area. This is where you can optionally report that the plant in question is a weed, and how bad it is and how you're dealing with it. The existence of this feature is helpful for those who are tracking "weeds". This functionality will be used in another upcoming update that will hook the plant lists feature into my upcoming revamp of our Weed Library which is accessible under the Learning Library.

I was curious about the weed designation, particularly as it relates to natives that some might perceive as weeds whereas other may see them as welcome volunteers. I used dicentra formosa (Pacific bleeding heart) as an example. This is native in my region, grows wild in my back woods, and has migrated up into my garden beds. I would not call this a weed, but others might. So I was a bit curious how the weed reports might work. But, I am unable to locate the 'weed report' box. How specifically do I get to this box? I tried to edit the plant details and to add a plant report, but didn't see it in either spot. ??

The weed report only exists in your plant list. It's not part of the plants database.

As for what a weed is, that's a decision each gardener makes for themself. A weed is simply an unwanted plant.
