My daughter gave me a pelargonium she won as a door prize. Its label read 'Classic Purple' zonal geranium. It's been quite a few years since I've had a geranium, although I've always liked them (reason why haven't had any is my wife is not fond of them.) Well, I repotted it into a larger container and moved it out to the patio when the weather warmed up.
I just removed four spent blossoms and awaiting for another eight loaded stems to break out in bloom in a few days. While it was labeled 'Classic Purple' the blossoms are actually two shades of pink.I will want to keep this over winter for next year's enjoyment. I don't have a basement but was thinking of keeping it in an unheated garage. Our winters get down to 15-20F occasionaly. Do you think this too cold for it or should I keep it in our heated house?
Would appreciate some suggestions. Since being gifted with this plant, I've been googling zonal pelargoniums - especially the fancy leaved ones and think I might order one or two. Unfortunately we have no nurseries nearly by - only local sources for plants are Home Depot and WalMart.
Been reading the back postings on the Geranium/Pelargonium forum (although most recent ones are about 3 months old) to learn about other members' preferences.I'm interested in a variety of plants as you can see from my profile.
Just had my 87th birthday and celebrating about 80 wonderful years of gardening enjoyment - hope to have a few more, but mostly a container gardener now as too difficult to bend over or get down on my hands and knees as I did for years and years . .
Hope a few of you get more active on this forum as i usually get on NGA every day to see what's new with everyone.
