Please post any hummingbird attracting plants that you've seen them feed from, preferably with the type of hummer that it attracts. We will update and edit the first post to contain the list, so feel free to chatter and question in your posts.

**Please note** -"sp" in the name refers to "species", in other words, more than one type of that plant will attract hummers - the one linked to is just one type or cultivar that does.

Hey Tee - do you have info/ pics for the Fameflower for the database? It is sadly empty....

Shoot - so is Lilium superbum. If you don't have that one, I'll bet someone on the lily forum will....

They hummers don't seem to like the other cannas as well as they do the canna indicas. Not sure why

Also what about Ipomoea quamoclit (cypress vine). I know they like this vine as well.

It may just be odd but they also loved my Magnolia tree. DD Blanchard Magnolia. I'll look up and do some more research on this one first though.

Don't know about that - one person put a whole bunch up by Terra Nova, so I guess it's allowed as long as you give attributes?

These plants are among those used by hummingbirds in Texas:
Carolina Jessamine, Gelsemium sempervirens--this is often the first nectar plant for hummingbirds arriving here in the early spring, which makes it very important for them.
Turk's Cap, Malvaviscus drummondii
Flame Acanthus, Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii
Rose Pavonia, Pavonia lasiopetala

BTW, a book I have on hummingbirds of Texas, NM and Arizona lists other hummingbirds ID'd in the US:
Cinnamon
Green Violet-ear
Green-breasted Mango
Plain-capped Starthroat

I've been fortunate enough to spot the Green Violet-ear here...an amazing sight!

If you are talking about Bob, he got permission to use the photos from Terra Nova. I don't want to put Wiki pictures in the database but that might be allowed under the terms of their license. They have different licenses with different conditions. I am not inclined to pursue that. But if someone has time to talk to them and to find out, let me know. Maybe ask Dave.
