My best hummer attracting plants are honeysuckle vines and of course butterfly bushes. I have many honeysuckle vines which are both the common honeysuckle flower form and also the trumpet honeysuckle form. Hummers don't care, they love both forms.

My newly added perennial Kniphofia sarmentosa has been attracting the hummingbirds visiting us daily. So much fun seeing them sticking their beaks on each flower. Been trying to catch them on camera, unfortunately they go near the plant just when I do not have the camera with me Grumbling

One of this days I will get them on camera!

I haven't seen our hummers much -- heard them, but not seen them lately, so I'm pretty sure they've been feasting up in the mimosa tree... Yes, I know it's a thug and on some invasive plant lists; I'm not particularly recommending it, but it is a hummer favorite in our yard. I wonder if that's because it attracts insects in addition to providing nectar? I saw a little girl ruby-throated zipping around the crepe myrtle today, and although she was enjoying some sips from the blooms she was also very interested in chasing some zooming little bugs.

I've only seen it happen once, but I did have a ruby-throated feed (try?) from a flower on my cucumber vine. Have never seen them do that before, or since.

I just got my copy of this publication and saw an article about this plant. I have quite a few and butterflies like them also!

I have one too, that I planted this spring. It sure is struggling, however. But that's probably my fault for not planting it in the fall.

From what I can tell, that milkweed is Asclepias incarnata 'Soulmate'. Must be nice to have a vanilla fragrance! I haven't been able to grow the Asclepias incarnata plants long enough to continue getting them (I have a very difficult climate here), but wish I could!

THe tiny dark pink blooms on our 12 foot Tea Tree is a favorite for local Hummers.
Common Name: Tea Tree | Scientific Name: Melaleuca Alternifolia
Family Name: Myrtaceae

I have had 3 hummingbird feeders in my small yard for many years, that are used by Anna's year round. We have the smallest little hummers I have ever seen. We watched her feed for 2 years. Then for the last 3 years she has brought her 2 little ones to the feeder just to show them where SHE eats. The next day she is chasing them away. They sneak back but Misses will chase away her own, as will as the much larger hummers. Her little ones are also very small like her. Course we Love them all. Beth Thumbs up

Hello, newbie here!

I have one regular hummer feeding in my small back garden and these plants seem to be his favorite:

Milkweed
Pentas
Coral honeysuckle

I also have a small duranta (golden dewdrop) tree started and I've read that these are popular hummingbird trees. I have two small blooming hibiscus shrubs at the front of the house so I'll need to sit there and watch for any activity.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge!
