These pictures are slightly out of order-- but I had magnificent squash ( I just listened to you guys talk about winter squash and northerners:). My squash had huge leaves and was just opening its blossoms. The bees were ecstatic. And then squash borers struck. They were at every joint in every plant. So I took drastic measures, cut them all off , which of course means that I pulled the plants out of the ground, sliced off every bit of borer evidence, including roots, and laid the vines down on the ground. I put fresh dirt over various places, watered and hoped for the best. You can see the wet laundry effect in the photos. Anyway, the blossoms continued to open for the bees as the leaves withered and died. After a few days I cut off the dead leaves and watered again. Luckily this all happened after a heat wave had passed and cooler weather prevailed, for a few days anyway. THe first and 3rd photos are the BEFORE pictures, the last two are the AFTER the surgical procedures, and the second photo is actually signs of life returning. That's the saga, so far. :).
