Salvia 'Rhythm and Blues' aka Salvia BODACIOUS™ 'Rhythm and Blues' is an Anise-Scented Sage introduced by Flowers By The Sea.

I've been waiting and waiting for the flowers, but on August 11, all I have so far is one small bud (or a small group of small buds). I thought I'd have flowers long before this. Maybe I can get pics of it this weekend.

@FBTS Kermit, would you chime in?

Anyone else growing this salvia this year and what are your experiences?

Here is a pic of my best blooming Rhythm and Blues taken back on July 14th. It took quite some time for it to grow and bloom, much slower than all my other Salvias.

I grew/am growing two seperate Rhythm and Blues. The second plant has grown even slower and bloomed significantly less. It bloomed about 2-3 weeks behind the first one and sent up about 2-3 blooming stalks that were about 4 inches high. Sighing!

The one that bloomed better had about 7-8 blooming stalks that are about 1-1.5 feet long. See the two pics below. Both plants have had some yellowing leaves all season long. Both are growing in the same potting soil same sunlight and water. In fact I was expecting so much from them I placed them in front of the main entrance of my house hoping they would WOW all those who entered Sighing! They have not Sad last years Amistad and Wendy's wish did more WOWING lol.

Not quite sure what to do with them or if I'll try them again. A little disappointing. I have heard from others a similar tale of slow growing and slow to bloom. Maybe we expect too much from these not sure?
I may go with more Blue Ensign next year, Amistad, or Elk Argentine Sky. Not sure! Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing your experience and pics. Lucky you to have flowers, since July or before. Here's the database link if you'd like to post your pics. Salvia (Salvia coerulea Bodacious® Rhythm and Blues)

I wished I had flowers from R and B all summer here, since it supposes blooms earlier than B and B. I had high hopes for it this year. Mine is in a large 24 inch container with Amistad. It's a good sized plant growing next to Amistad, so it didn't get crowded out by it.

I didn't get around to taking any pics of it, but looking again at the one stem of tightly closed buds, it doesn't look like it's going to be blooming anytime in the near future.

I wished I'd bought Black and Blue and bought Black and Bloom at Almost Eden when I placed my order there for some other plants. I may or may not get R and B next year. If I do, then I might put it in a different container.

Rhythm and Blues is on its second bloom for me now. Many more flower stalks and blooms. It looks good! I have hit it with Bloom booster a few times over the last 6 weeks it seems to have helped. Here is a pic, I'll have to get one of the whole plant.

Wonderful! Looking great! Here's the db for Rhythm and Blues if you'd like to add the pics, which I hope you do. Salvia (Salvia coerulea Bodacious® Rhythm and Blues)

Your pics look great too.

Mine hasn't done as well as yours. I can't get out to fertilize as much as I'd like to, with the heat and humidity we have here. What brand of bloom booster have you been using?

I've looked back at some of my salvia pics from other years and they did a lot better and that's when I remembered I'd used Osmocote when I planted them.

Thanks the pics aren't the best but they will work. I use Miracle Grow Bloom Booster. I picked up a couple of packages last weekend they were on sale for 4.00 bucks at Walmart. I'll be set for next year!

That is my better blooming one. My other one hasn't done near as well, but it is blooming better than it did the first go round.

Thanks @utahxericman for the info! I usually shop at Meijer here and I'll look for it. What are the numbers on the box for the bloom booster (n-k-p)?

Your salvia in the pic looks great!

Is the MG Bloom Booster in boxes that have the little blue crystals to mix?

@utahxericman,

Thanks!

Do you use this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RUJZI6/ with the garden feeder contraption https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D8QWUCY/ or this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P0DK1Q/ or do you just use your watering can with the BB granules?

@utahxericman,

Thanks so much for your help! Meijer's had one of those https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P0DK1Q/ Miracle-Gro Garden Feeders (with the 1-Pound Miracle-Gro All Purpose Plant Food attached). I can go back and get it and dump out the All Purpose Plant Food granules, rinse, dry and use my last remaining Bloom Booster granules with the Garden Feeder. I might have my hubby drive around to WalMart and/or Lowe's and see if they have any of the Bloom Booster boxes still available.

Never did use the MG fertilizers before, so I really appreciate all you help!

Thank You! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up
