Whats with these sticky threads/posts ?
They take precedence over new
Treads/posts. They haven't had responses for weeks, months, or years, but there they are ! At top of list !!!
Anything i say, could be misrepresented, or wrong.

Trish created those to help members new to the site. I think they should be helpful to newbies, and should remain where they are. They serve the purpose for which they were intended. If you disagree and want them removed, I suggest you write directly to Dave or Trish.

"Stickies" are threads located at the top of many forums; the stickies contain pertinent information regarding a particular plant, etc.

Philip, that's why they are called 'stickies' because they stick to the top of the list. Rolling on the floor laughing

My preference would be to have all the stickies for a particular thread be combined into just one sticky so that all the information would be on the same page. It's hard enough for new folks to navigate and having the information in just one sticky might make it easier for them.

I came across this when I was looking for something else... Philip ( @Philipwonel ), I'm pretty sure there is no way for anyone other than an admin to make a post "sticky." The ones that you've seen from "long-time members" may have been the result of some things that were carried over here (long ago) from another site, "Cubits." Smiling

Administrators and moderators can make a sticky or remove it.

Aha - that answers a lot of questions for me. So it is actually a matter of choice from an administrator or moderator then? A thread they find particularly useful, informative or important?

Yes, or just the main forum thread of the year. For example, @valleylynn (apologies for the tag, Lynn) is the moderator of the Sempervivum forum, and she makes the "Sempervivum Chat & Photos" thread a sticky every year. At the end of the year, she takes that thread down, and replaces it with next year's thread.

There are two other sticky threads on the forum that she probably thought were important, and should be some of the first threads anyone sees after clicking on the forum.

Hi Johannian, yes, the 3 stickies are important and need to be easily found. They are very helpful to our newcomers.
