I think I have asked about this before but couldn't find a previous post about it. There is something going on up in our hackberry trees that is causing everything under them to have a sticky coating, our cars, and all of the plants. I've had to move my plants hanging under the trees because they were starting to get sooty mold from it.

I think it is a similar problem that I had with my Crape Myrtles, but I think it is wooly aphids in the hackberry trees that make the honey dew? (sticky stuff). The power company cut down my large Crape Myrtles , but standing under them at times it was almost like a light shower. I was told it was aphids causing it, but I never was able to find a single aphid in the trees.

Are hackberry trees unusual? I thought more people would respond about the tribulations of trying to garden underneath.
