Hummie photos for the day 16Mar2012 - a very overcast day..at least no winds..had just refilled again the feeders so the hummies are busy shuffling back and forth:
.. he is still trying to set his beak inside the feeder:
Nice hummie! I love having flowers blooming for little visitors again! Soon the penstemons will start!
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White
Integrity can never be taken. It can only be given, and I wasn't going to give it up to these people. Gary Mowad

A nippy Spring morning today 23Mar2012 and I found this little hummie taking its sweet time as it enjoys the morning sun
Seems like it is doing its version of morning stretching exercises I just had to take lots of shots...it is not often that they stay this long on one setting
And while taking these set of photos, another hummie is busily hovering on the nectar feeder..they seem to know they have to stock up, coz we do have lousy weather this weekend:
Very pretty, tarev! I caught some pics today also. The first is a male Black-chinned and the second a female, probably the same species. Soon the penstemons will be blooming!

At one point, I was sitting on a chair nearby for a while, partly hidden from the hummers, had to aim the camera up...and they were really hungry! The male hardly paid any attention to me. He must have seen me quite a few times, yet kept coming back to that feeder. When the penstemons open later, they will go to those first, but right now it's feeder first, then salvias.

With the warmer weather all over, I wonder...they might get there early!

I notice that with the hummers here too If I do not refill the feeders then that's the time they will fly over to the Kniphofia or to other plants..otherwise, feeders are their first choice
I normally don't put my feeders out until I see the azaleas bloom... but since the map says they have been passing me by.. I put them out anyway.. have to pick up one of the massive bags of sugar tomorrow
They always come to my window and let me know they're here when they don't find their feeders. They are such a hoot!
My azaleas are blooming! All of them are or will be covered with blooms this year. The flowering trees are the most beautiful and the most bloom-covered I've ever seen them here. I guess some things liked the weird winter weather. Some of the trees -- redbuds, white dogwoods, pink dogwoods, Bradfords are simply breath-taking right now.

Early this morning, found this little hummie quietly perched on the china doll tree, seems like it is waiting for the sun to fully shine after a rainy night:
Later on found some more hummies on the nearby shepherd's hook..now they are in a huddle
