It probably is, but it's certainly gorgeous and makes a wonderful banner! What is the delicate white flower with it?

@Karen: The delicate white flower is 'Diamond Frost' (Euphorbia hypericifolia Diamond Frost®). I use it a lot as a gardening filler. The reason I brought this title of "controversy" to our gardeners attention is because I read that in Europe this petunia may be banned; due to the fact that Europe is adamantly against GMO processes. We may not see this color of orange next year. I found it to be a striking, unusual accent in my garden and will be sad to see it disappear, but there is a legitimate argument.

I agree, Liz. It's my favorite color!
Fleur, it will be sad if it disappears. It's beautiful.
That Euphorbia is a new one for me. What a great plant to use as a filler!

The orange petunias (and descendants in other colors) have genes from corn (maize.) Apparently, companies not involved in or even aware of the genetic engineering were importing them or incorporating them into their breeding lines. Some breeders are trashing many years of work because of this. The list of proven, lab-tested GMO petunias is below.

Although I thought it, I almost forgot to say, "Lovely banner, Fleur!" Lovey dubby

@Danita: Thank you so much for following up with the references on the GMO Orange Petunia. I read them all and they gave me insight as to the dilemmas facing the issue. I hope petunia fans will also read the blogs. Two snipets from the articles condensed some vital information:

"Jennifer Schamber of Greenscape Gardens in Manchester, MO, who said that many of her customers hadn’t heard about the issue yet, says Greenscape focuses on plant function, more than color. Consumers like color, but they are more responsive to buying what will help them create a healthier landscape in their yard. GM petunias wouldn’t be a good fit for them because they are concentrating on pollinator health, human health, environmental health, and so forth."

"AmericanHort is actively assisting affected plant breeders, distributors, growers, and retailers as the genetically modified petunia regulatory response continues. Since the last update, there have been several changes to the list of petunias confirmed or suspected of being genetically engineered and therefore unauthorized to be imported or sold. Also, the list of recognized laboratories for petunia variety confirmation testing has expanded."

Very interesting!
I think this has to be my favorite banner ever. It's so beautiful with that striking orange set off by the delicate white flowers of the Euphorbia.

To: @plantmanager, @LizDTM,@joannakat, @Legalily, @Danita:
Thank you for you comments on my Orange Petunia banner, especially to Danita for further submitting research, which enlightened the issue. I was intrigued by the GMO threat and am glad the dialog expanded.
