I'm thinking about clearing an area for a new bed and it's a spot where I think Heuchera would do well. Morning sun, afternoon shade. But it's also sort of highway for the local deer population. What do you think? Would I just be planting a deer salad bar?

Hi Sandy,
I don't have deer in my garden but plenty of people have said deer do eat heuchera on this forum. I believe they would have to be protected. Lets see what others say.

Not a favorite of theirs, but they will eat if nothing better around.

Thank you. "Not favorites" might be the best I can hope for. I think I'll try a mix of ferns and heucheras there and see how it goes.

The summer (2012) they discovered my daylilies, they also ate not only all daylily blooms from over 600 plants, but took the Hostas and heucheras down to nubs, ate all the roses and even went after the hydrangeas, all within about a week. I now have an 8' deer fence, the only TRULY effective deer repellant. I'd tried everything up to that point!

That's so sad! Wait all year for blooms and in a week it's spoiled. I don't have deer issues so can't answer your question but I've seen many posts about the deer eating heuchera.

Considering I live between a state park and watershed land I have been lucky with how much the deer eat. Might be there is so much in the area for them to choose from. I have way more problems with rabbits.

The deer eat everyone they get close to in my yard. They love them and the rabbits to. I think it also may be the area you live. What some deer eat a little others love them. I would try one and see what happens.
