Well thanks a lot - I thought I was FINISHED BUYING THINGS for this season......
But it didn't take much arm twisting to get me to go for it - it's pretty. And it MAY have "better" vitamin content, since it's dark.

Ran across this old thread today when researching marsh mallow. Didn't read all of it, but was nostalgically happy to see Sharon Brown's smiling face here and there... I'm definitely on Team Herbs, can't imagine anyone who would be opposed to them. Pretty plants, usually very robust (some downright thuggish) and useful to boot. I did notice that no one opted for Team No Herbs!

Once one starts researching the use of plants for culinary, medicinal, cosmetic, or repellent uses, it is amazing how many plants fall into the realm of 'herbs.' Makes me think this is actually a misnomer.

Oxford Dictionary: herb

1. Any plant with leaves, seeds, or flowers used for flavoring, food, medicine, or perfume.

2. Any seed bearing plant that does not have a woody stem and dies to the ground after flowering.

I guess #1 is mostly how I look at herbs, although I'd also include the use of the root and bark. That would also cover the multitude of shrubs and trees that may be used.

#2 appears to be a botanical term, much as our database choice for 'herb/forb.'

@lizDTM I grow a ton of herbs for our MG plant sale, and I'm chairperson for our demonstration herb bed at our county fairgrounds. At our fairgrounds beds, we try to showcase ways to use herbs, so we have the following beds: edible flowers, tea garden, medicinal herbs, a sensory garden, and culinary herbs..

I like to try to push the envelope a bit to expose people to new things, and new ways to use herbs. I also love to cook so grow lots of herbs in my garden.

That sounds great! Do you have any good salad dressing recipes with herbs?
