Hello,

I planted a bunch of freesias in my garden. I realize now that one of the groupings I planted, are in too much shade D'Oh! .Their leaves are fully up now, but they're very floppy... basically kissing the ground.

I'm wondering is it safe to move them? Should I just let them be? I would only move them if I knew I wouldn't kill them. If anyone has any experience, please share!

Thank you so much
Carly

The safest bet would be to wait and move them when the leaves start drying and the bulbs are going dormant. While I can't grow freesias here, I think they should probably treated like other bulb and corm plants. I have moved bulb plants while in active growth, but the roots are brittle and easily damaged, which typically causes them to go dormant prematurely. That doesn't allow the foliage as much time to replenish the bulbs and can cause fewer or no blooms the following year.

Hi Neal,

Thank you for the advice, I was leaning towards waiting seemed like the smart thing to do. I don't usually do the smart thing Confused ha but anyone can change.
Thanks again!

Hello Carly, yes they tend to flop like that when it is not getting enough sun, but it does hate too being very hot and dry, so you may have to balance it out that it is not getting too dried out. Don't know if you are in the coastal side or inland area of San Diego county, so watch your temps and adjust watering as needed. It is a cool weather growing bulb, likes feeling cool and a tad damp but not waterlogged. Since leaves are out, just wait it out and do not move them.

Hi Tarev,

Ok thank you, I'm on the coast but I'll have to see if I'm watering enough. It's been a lot warmer here this time of year than usual.
