Can you tell me what the difference is between Orange Sovereign and Naranja? They look exactly the same to me. What is the difference?

They do look very similar. Go to emaryllis.com to look at his photos. Orange Sovereign is an older orange from van Waveren, described as a true orange. Naranja is a more recent introduction of Pennings, described as a coral/ salmon color. Color is very subjective, what each person sees in his or her own blooms, and also what the photographs show. Color in a photograph is dependent on lighting, background, use of flash, age of the bloom, etc. This is why it is so difficult to ID many of these cultivars, they do look so similar. Just think of all the Reds currently on the market Sighing!

Thanks. My photos of both of them look to be the same color, size etc but you you are right - that depends on lighting, soil condition and who knows what else. I guess I will need to get my Naranja and Orange Sovereign to both bloom at exactly the same time so I can compare them side by side in the same light. And the chances of me managing that particular feat are pretty slim! Rolling on the floor laughing

Well, now that Naranja has just bloomed, I do think Orange Sovereign is a bit redder and Naranja more orange. The bloom of Naranja is bigger. But most of all, Naranja has nice ridges in each petal, which I think makes it more showy I think.
