I have had this plant for three years now and it has never done well and has never bloomed. My experience with these plants is limited. I had it planted for a couple of years but pulled it inside into my greenhouse this last fall since it was just not setting the world on fire. In retrospect that was a good decision due to our cold winter. Anyway, it has done pretty good in the greenhouse over the winter but now I am not sure what to do with it. It is very leggy but does have some new growth at the base. If I cut it back are the upper portions too woody to root? Our soil here is so sandy I think I am not going to plant it again this year and just try and get it healthy in a pot. I do have one large plant, non variegated, that has grown very well right beside where I had this one planted. It remains to be seen if it survived the winter. Any suggestions are welcome. Actually there are two plants just alike. Please excuse the greenhouse. I will get t cleaned when I get all the plants outside.

Hi Michael, I have no idea why it hasn't bloomed for you. It looks like it's healthy and growing well. Do you know what color the blooms will be? I know Bubbles has a lot of Brugs at her place in Texas. @Bubbles, do you have any ideas?

Thanks Karen. I am not too concerned it hasn't bloomed and mainly wonder what to do with the plant now. It is just ugly in appearance. I grow it mainly for the foliage and think if I can get it going it will eventually flower. This one is called Peaches and Cream from Brian's Botanicals. This is a picture from his website.

Your brug looks much better than any of mine! I haven't figured out how to keep them looking nice. I get so many insect holes, and nibbled leaves.

I have had variegated brugs, but have never been able to over winter them. They did bloom, stayed small, but just melted away when it got cold here. I did protect them, as I did other brugs, but the v. brugs just didn't do well for me.

(You may want to bump it up to a bigger pot).

Looks like it might be either Snowbank or Maya......tho there may be more verigated-leafed ones now. Neither did much over the summer, but did put out some blooms over winter in the greenhouse. I finally got sick of the "non-performance" and chucked them both. Life is too short to mess with something that is just "there" and doesn't bloom.

I am looking for a rooted Maya. Anyone know of a source?

Jackie McCain has rooted Maya and lots more. However she's on face book not on garden clubs.

Bumping up an old thread. @enddvm Michael how is your varie. brug doing? Mine is such a slow grower! It's been 2 years I think its grown 12-18" inches. Certainly not the same rate as my pinks. I don't give it much sun and it sits there suspended animation! I have it in a pot so it winter's over in the gested gh. I just transplanted to a 5 gal. Hopefully some leg room will help? I also moved it to get more sun, but not the wilting kind like out front. I'm hoping you'll post and tell me hood things about yours, how the trimming went etc. I have 1 leggy branch that I'm so tempted to trim. But as slow as it grows I also dont want to stunt its growth! Jay start pinching to encourage branching. I just learned after all these years that I was supposed to be doing that all the while. Which might explain why I have a 9ft trunk on one! Lol

Cheryl I don't stop in here very often anymore. I have 5 now I think. A couple I left in the ground this winter and it looks like they survived. My tallest one is about 5 feet. It was stored in a utility room this winter. I give them morning sun with some afternoon sun. They love water. You do probably need to give it more sun which will mean more water. Yours is very tall. I would cut it back. Now that I look at it again maybe that tall one is solid color. They are pretty easy to root. I don't think they grow as fast as solid leaf plants. My largest solid leaf one out in the yard is 8-9 feet tall and too many branches to count. It pretty much bloomed all winter this year. Mild winter this year. No frost. Just give it more sun like you said.
