Oooh, this is the first I've heard of dwarf salpiglossis! I'll be curious to see how they look!

I'll take pictures if I can get them through to the garden.
And today----if I use a magnifying glass---I think there are one or two sprouts on
the Black Trumpet and Kew Blue ones.
I wonder if the darker colors sprout later? like red petunias are later to sprout?

The Black Trumpet ones are germinating slowly, but the Kew Blue is not sprouting well at all.
If I get half a dozen Kew Blue, I will be surprised.

Funny how different colours sprout differently. I planted some Campanula pyramidalis the other day, one batch of white, and one batch of blue. The white ones have germinated, but so far no sign of the blues. And they were planted at the same time in the same conditions and the seeds came from the same vendor at the same time. Odd.

Yes, that is strange.
I have had that happen too with other seeds.

A note on the Kew Blue on March 21 which is about 3 weeks after sowing:
there are two or three more seedlings showing up as time goes on.

Another year I will keep some Kew Blue in darkness and see if that matters.

I lost these when I moved them away from lights?
Not enough light? or they damped off?
They were doing fine under the lights, but I wanted to turn lights off when I went away.

Oh, that's so disappointing, Caroline! I lost a couple of mine to neglect (sigh, shame on me!), but I still have a few. Now if I can just get them planted out before I lose them too!

I'll try again next year-maybe start them a little later,
and try to keep them under lights if it is a cloudy spring again.

They really do want light, and lots of it, as soon as they sprout. Otherwise they get very spindly.

They do get spindly even in a greenhouse. I grew them a few years but had to spray for aphids so much that I stopped. A local nursery has them for 1.25 a 4 inch pot. They are spectacular though!!!

Mine were happy under the lights.
I wish I had left them there!

Me too!
It seems that I need to grow a new plant for several years,-- before I get it right!
