I thought this would be an interesting topic and a fun guessing game.

I currently have seedlings producing scapes and buds that have not ever bloomed, until this year. I am anxious to see what the flowers look like from the known parents. I would love to hear what everyone thinks the blooms will look like. A kind of guessing or prediction game.

I will list the parents (with a photo of each), as well as the grandparents (if known):

What do YOU think the blooms of TTT27 will look like????

In the photo of the buds (in the first photo), you can see some coloring, so that might help give us a possible clue as to what it will look like when it blooms. Now remember, the first year and even the second year blooms of a new seedling can change by the third year. But what we are guessing on is THIS year's very first blooms!

I hope you will join me in this game and post your prediction! And if you have some brand new seedlings that are showing scapes/buds currently, take a photo of the buds and then list the parents and grandparents for us to try to predict what the blooms will look like.

Rule: Only post a photo of seedlings that are CURRENTLY budding. Nothing worse than making a prediction on a seedling that does not bloom at all this year. LOL! Because I like to see the results shortly after my prediction. So share a photo of the first or second bloom from your seedling once it actually blooms!

Okay, I'll try. Looking at the buds I'll guess the kid is going to look more like the seedling parent (in coloring and form) than Little Jet Setter. And the flowers will be larger than LJS but smaller than the seedling parent.

Do you have other sibs of this cross? Maybe one of them will be a bicolor like LJS!

My daylilies are just coming up. Won't have scapes forming until May.

So far I wouldn't have been able to predict most my seedlings that have bloomed (I've only had 10 bloom) from knowing one or both parents. Most look nothing like either one! Unfortunately I don't have information on grandparents for most of them because the breeders of the parent plants never listed them.

I have no idea, but can't wait to see if something interesting happens to that watermark from Little Jet Setter. And I hope it has ruffles!

O.K. my guess is orange or pink
crispate with a patterned eyezone. Can't wait to see!

My guess:
Light pink or lavender bitone with a washed eye. Form somewhat of a mix between the two, possibly with curling sepals. Bloom size larger than LJS, but not a large bloom.

Regina - Well, I should have given any stats I had on the parents. (If I had stats recorded.)

The seedling pod parent (CCC05) has only bloomed once since I've grown it. Fortunately, I did cross it at that time. It had a short scape down in the foliage (though that could have been because it was a young seedling) and had a low bud count.

Little Jet Setter, the pollen parent, is almost the opposite. It has taller scapes above the leaves with many buds/blooms.

Colors are quite the opposite, too. The two parent plants couldn't be much more different from one another.

Looking at the soon to bloom seedling, TTT27, it appears to have a bud count and scape height of Little Jet Setter. Observing the shape of the buds, it looks like it is going to have the shape and size of something in-between the two parents. And I see some dark reddish-orange on the buds showing through. So it may resemble a grandparent from CCC05 (pod parent) that has a similar color. But who knows? The first bloom should open within the next day or two. I will post a photo when it does.

Elena - I do in fact have another seedling of the same cross. It is actually growing right next to this one. And it has 2 scapes forming with buds. But it is about a week or so behind in growth of TTT27.

The stats I recorded on CCC05 (pod parent) was that the bloom was 6" and the scape was 12".

Nikki - Well, I love the bright orange color of CCC05, but I love the bitone of Little Jet Setter. And I am very happy with the bud count of the seedling so far. So hopefully one of the blooms will open up tomorrow or Tuesday!

Now here is the sibling seedling. This is TTT26. It has the same exact parents and probably came from the same seed pod. The bud is looking a little different than TTT27. It is at least a week behind it's sibling.

My guess on the sibling seedling (TTT26) is that it may be more of bitone color. The bud shape seems to be more like the pod parent CCC05 which has longer petals, not the more rounded petals of LJS. Should be interesting! The bloom mystery continues ....

I'm guessing it will be an orange bi-color!

Explain to me TTT26 and TTT27 - I figure the 26 and 27 are for the specific seeds from that batch, but what does the TTT mean? I am breeding some Amaryllis and would like to at least sound like I know what I am doing, so thanks for educating me. I don't have Irises, but follow your forum because all of you are so into breeding, and I love that. Would have Irises, but not enough room at my condo, so I will appreciate them through you. Your TTT26 bud looks longer than TTT27 - so perhaps longer, narrower petals? I can't wait to see both of them.

I think TTT26 will be purple (hopefully a bitone!) but I can't say about the form. The pics of the buds can make the older ones seem long and thin (like the seedling parent) or shorter and fatter (like LJS). Most likely both sibs will be a combo of the two forms. But since I haven't crossed an unusual form and a more normal form I have no idea what that will look like. I can't wait to see!

I usually see the bloom and then go hunting for the tag and hope it is still there.
That is an unusual cross, especially mixing those colors.
I guess cream with lots of red eye zone. 4.5" bloom size with narrow form.

Just curious to know if you were trying for something in particular with this cross?

Yesterday, I found a scape in my garden. The temperatures are still getting below freezing on a regular basis.
Tonight is forecast at 28f and two other days this week are forecast to be below freezing. The high on Easter was 39f and the forecast for Friday is high of 35f. Both are record low highs for the dates. What is this daylily doing? Seems to be thumbing it's scape at mother nature.

Christie - The seedling name TTT27 and TTT26 are just a name I gave them as seedlings. The TTT doesn't mean anything except I know which year I started them. I have a reference sheet to tell me the parents of each seedling. I have many seedlings using the TTT name that are not the same cross, but started the same year and time. I do like to number the seedlings in numerical order if they are the same cross. I hope that makes sense?

BTW - These are daylilies, not irises! LOL!

Terry - I like to cross some parents that seem most unlikely just to see what they produce.

I liked the seedling parent because of the bloom colors and form, but it had low bud count and short scapes. So Little Jet Setter had the scape height and bud count that impressed me, so I figured what the hey .... so I crossed them. TTT27 should be blooming tomorrow or some time this week. It looks like it is ready to pop open.

Your cold temps with a scape forming is crazy! I am surprised the scape doesn't wilt and die with such weather.

I think some of you posting that thought it might be purplish color may be correct. But I am assuming the underneath petal colors show that dark burgandy color when it is purple/dark lavendar color on the top of the petal. We shall soon see .... Stay tuned!

The sibling seedling is looking interesting too.
