I received a Hens and Chicks plant around 3 months ago (his name is Bruce). Anyway, I placed him in an old, cute candle pot, so there are no draining holes. However, I put some rocks at the bottom, to help the roots not drown. Bruce was doing well, until about 2-3 weeks ago. His underneath layer is becoming brown and yellow, with a mushy texture. He became limp, and is no longer standing up on his own. I read the above comments and took him out of the soil, hoping this would help. But, I'm scared this isn't the same case with my Hens and Chicks. Please let me know if there is a way for me to save him. I have some photos attached.

Are those flower buds forming on top? If so, then it is a goner. Sempervivum (Hens and Chicks) are monocarpic, meaning once a rosette blooms, it dies. Normally by this time there are offsets (chicks) that replace it, but I don't see any in your photograph.

When you say flower bud, what exactly do you mean? Like a colorful flower or a green flower-like bud that looks like the plant? I will attach another picture shortly.

I didn't click the link so don't know if they say this, but hen and chicks really aren't indoor plants, they might survive for a month or so, but they won't thrive, or live very long - unless if really full sun, with great air flow (a fan blowing at least 15 hours per day) and in very fast draining soil. Most people aren't able to give them what they require indoors, so they die.
Sorry Place those offsets (chicks) outside and they'll probably live!
