This is a second cross to predict what this child will look like when it blooms. It has never bloomed and was sowed on July 2017. This second seedling cross is TTT36. The parents are Galaxy Explosion x Wild One. The sad thing about this cross is that during Hurricane Irma, I lost both parents from a suspected tornado that may have ripped through my backyard and literally up-rooted the back section of my largest raised bed where these parents (and several others) were growing. So I am glad that I managed to collect some seeds prior to the hurricane hitting most of Florida. I hope I get something good from the cross. Wild One was one of my favorite cultivars. I loved it! The blooms lit up that raised bed. So pretty! Who knows what a cross with Galaxy Explosion will create!

I think it will look more like Galaxy Explosion.

As much as I would like for this seedling to look like Wild One, I think it will be a dark orange.

Great cross Becky, I'm sorry to hear you lost both of the parents. I lost my most expensive daylily this year "tet almira buffalo bone jackson" and it made me sick. I never even got to see it bloom
I can't wait to see what your baby looks like I'm thinking Galaxy Explosion's patterns will shine through but Wild One genes will change the shape of the flower. I have several Galaxy Explosion seedlings and it seems that pattern is evident in all it's offspring.

I have, and plan to use Galaxy Explosion to hybridize this year. So, I'm really interested in what you get. I may have to get Wild One now also, so pretty! I love your bold crosses, Becky! Best game, ever! Can't wait to see.

I think it will have the eyezone of Galaxy Explosion, maybe a tad lighter than GE, with slightly wider petals. Actually, I have no idea , other than the eyezone. I think that will come through in the offspring.

OK, I am joining the game. I will say skinny long petals - longer than GE - green merging to yellow eyezone. Somewhat ruffled, ridged and veined petals. Deep rose of GE up the center of each petal, with yellow to pink towards the edges.

I've been wanting Wild One for awhile now. I just love it!

Based on the buds I'd say the form will be more like GE. But I'm hoping the color will be more like WO. Definitely a yellow throat. And I guess it will have a dark chevron (?) eye.

I have been watching your posts, waiting for the openings. I have been growing out seedlings for a few years now. A couple of my favorite seedlings changed drasticly from the first year to the 2nd. Wish I had photos to show you, but both were very pretty and more unusual the first year, much more common looking the next. I just found it interesting that several others do not find as much change. One in particular had a huge very blue eye zone, very unusual look to it the first year. The next year it looked much more like its pod parent, Moonlit Masquerade.
Hope you get lots of beautiful ones. My problem, I love them all but am out of room to save them all.

And I also have a couple of other siblings from the same cross. Here is 1 of the siblings that has also produced a scape with buds.

What has surprised me the most about this cross is the color coming through on the buds. The buds of both seedlings look like the petals will be yellow like Wild One. I am wondering if Galaxy Explosion's pattern will even show up. If not, then I am wondering why? If the pod parent had been Wild One instead of Galaxy Explosion, then I would assume a bee pod, but these 2 seedlings came from a pod of GE. So this cross has me VERY curious!

The other thing to note looking at the buds .... The TTT36 has fatter buds like Wild One. But TTT33 has thinner, longer buds like Galaxy Explosion. Therefore I am speculating that one may resemble the bloom form of WO and the other may resemble the form of GE.

This particular cross has definitely surprised me so far. I can't wait for both seedlings to bloom.

Alilyfan - I have had some of mine change over the period of 3 years, too! I think that is why hybridizers wait 3 years before registering a seedling. Best to see what it becomes after 3 seasons of blooming.

I guess I'm surprised to hear that they may not look as good the 2nd year as the 1st. I had a bunch of seedlings bloom last year and am excited to see them this year because I've heard that they may well improve the second and third year. Hmmmm. Guess I'll find out in about 3 months from now.

I can't wait to see the seedling. I still think it will have the eye from GE.

Take a look at the actual buds in those 2 photos. I may be totally wrong about the bloom color. Looking at GE, it appears that the buds look a bit yellow like these seedling buds. So they could still have orange-red blooms with a pattern.

It's anyone's guess what the first blooms will look like .....

I love the suspense and surprise! Both buds should bloom sometime this week. I will post photos when they do!

Becky, wouldn't you agree, the surprise of what the face will look like is what makes the bloom of a new seedling so exhilarating. I think it's the reason most of us make our crosses.

Although, I don't have any predictions, I have enjoyed your new threads discussions and look forward to the reveal of your seedlings beauty!

I did a quick combo of the two like I do for most of my crosses. Can give an idea of what color could possibly result...


Looks like yellow-orange is a likely outcome...

I got Wild One last year so am very glad to see what it does when crossed. I think my previous guess of 'dark orange' will be wrong based on the light coloring of those buds.

Dennis - That is very interesting what you did to try to get a prediction based on the blooms! You might be right! I think your second photo may be what this one will wind up looking like.

Here is a photo I took late this afternoon of the bud that looks like it might just bloom tomorrow. (Photo looks better NOT enlarging it.) Hopefully the rain won't ruin the bloom before I get a photo of it.
