I have been a collector of daylilys for two yrs now. I have never paid attention to daylily habit and finding out that i know absolutely nothing about them. I always thought new fans came from the ground. Now i am looking around and see all these fans that look like they have multiple centers i always thiught it was the beginning of scapes am i wrong ? I see no signs of scapes. Just daylily fans that have more than one center. Thank You!
Every home needs a daylily, and every daylily needs a home.

Sometimes very large fans split into two fans. I'm not sure of the exact process or why some fans get so large to begin with. I've seen it in my garden but mostly with my own seedlings. I don't think it's anything to worry about. The fans do look mighty strange though while they are going through the process. Smiling

I'm no expert either but have experienced both actually. Sometime new growth will emerge from the ground as new fans. Also, as Elena mentioned a mature fan will sometimes divide and split into another fan.

A seedling I have, did that in 2016. It was my first experience with seeing this division. The seedling was nearly doubled over and twisted in all sorts of ways. It multiplied into several fans. It's rapid growth had me hanging on to it, to see it mature. Of course it pretty face also helps.

Wow Stan! That's a beaut! I love the colors and that fact that it's a double! It reminds me of some roses. Are you going to register it?

Thank you Elena,

So far, it is showing great characteristics. The bloom is from it's first year, and it will be interesting to see how it settles in. As already mentioned, it has increased rapidly, growing from one fan into seven after it's first full year in the Bed. It is also showing signs of not being rust susceptible. Which, is a big Thumbs up in many regards. So Yes, I'm leaning towards registration.
