The NGA database doesn't list Fungi or microorganisms ... only the plant kingdom so the Fungi Forum is a perfect place to share photos and information of these interesting and sometimes beautiful organisms.

dkmushroom: If I saw that species in the wild, I would definitely think it was of the "oyster" family in layman's terms, and I would "pick" same, and I am a layman in the Fungi collecting world, although the species pictured, appears to be "cultivated". I have "grown" a white version, purchased from the supermarkets. We have one firm right here in Nova Scotia, Canada, which cultivates this species and sells to the Restaurant trade. Cheers!

Thanks, Lin. I didn't know that. I thought we did have Fungi pics, but I must have been thinking of the forum.

I wish I knew more about them. We see so many around here, but I don't have a clue which ones are edible.

I see a lot of different ones at times here too and some are so interesting looking! I'd be very afraid to eat any of them because I have no idea what is edible and what is poisonous.

I agree, Lin. When I was young and stupid I found some mushrooms that looked just like what I bought in the store. I sauteed them up and we ate them for dinner. They were wonderful! A few hours after dinner we both got worried about them and we imagined all sorts of bad things, but we lucked out. I've never done that again! Unless I can find someone who knows their mushrooms, I'll buy them in the grocery.
