Typically the white form (alba/album or occasionally albiflora) of a plant is the result of one or two alleles being different from the regular-coloured form (i.e. it is a minor difference that results in the inability to produce a certain pigment). It is no longer considered sufficiently different to warrant a distinct taxon.
