I know we will be doing a larger mix and match type of group buy, but any volume discount will probably be about the same as this preseason sale. So for those who like to pet plant in large patches and drifts of color. I thought I'd make an opportunity to join me in an early order.

The idea is to order bulbs by the "retail box" rather than trying to figure out 5 of this and 20 of that (since it's a short sale period). If several people want a retail box's worth of something, we can look at dividing a flat of bulbs instead -- but that can be a lot of bulbs, 400 in a flat in most of the daffodils, while the retail boxes contain 50.

I will drop by to look up prices as often as I can between now and Wednesday, at least once a day. You can expect prices to be half off or better than paying retail, with the exception of crocus bulbs, which are well priced but similar to retail. The daffodils I've been checking out today go from 30 to 80 cents per bulb (before discount).

They have given us free shipping in the past, and I expect that will continue. The usual caveats apply -- if I have to pay shipping, I'll divvy up the cost and pass it along. They don't charge my CC until they ship, but if something bizarre happens and we lose our money, we will share in that loss. I'm not a retail store; I can't absorb a loss.

I'm very excited to see that they have daffodil Bridal Crown again. It's like a shorter and more floriferous cheerfulness daff, bunch flowering and very sweetly fragrant. I think it would combine well with oriental hyacinths!

I know several people were interested in Thalia, so I may go ahead and order a 500 bulb flat of that, figuring we can split into lots of 100 bulbs.

I'm jotting down notes in italics on who is interested in what, but don't worry, we won't start finalizing numbers until next week Tuesday.

Maybe a box of the Amaryllis Barbados and Christmas Gift? There are only 10 in the box, and it seems to be one that sells out quickly.

Eranthis hyemalis 'Cilicica' -

The Leucojum comes in boxes of 100 but not in a larger quantity flat.

Big savings on a flat of Hyacinthoides hispanica Blue, but it's a big quantity, 1500 bulbs, the equivalent of 10 retail boxes. But the price for 150 goes from $31 down to $24 ($21.60 with the discount) if we get a whole flat. Terri, if you want as many as 1000, I'll do it. I can take a couple hundred, and I can push some over to the next group buy if nobody speaks up this time. They are "little bulbs," so it takes at least 100 to have any impact, and a drift of 500 is better. Supposed to be great naturalizers, too.

Peruvian Amaryllis -- they have several new varieties this year, $5.50 per bulb. I don't think we'll have any trouble "unloading" those, so I'm going to go ahead and order Cherry Blossom, Double King, Ice Queen, and Mandela.

Rick, I can get a box of Dutch Barbedos if you're willing to take half... with Christmas Gift, I'm not sure how much interest there will be in an $8 white amaryllis when we can get the Peruvian bulbs of Ice Queen or Denver for $5.50 or $5.

I'm a little less keen on the Barbedos because they have that deep deep red Mandela this year.

Also, if there are any amaryllis varieties where one of you would like the whole box or nearly the whole box (8 or 9), please let me know. If it's one of the Peruvian (cheap) bulbs, I'll then order a second box.

Thinking about ordering 1 box of each Peruvian variety and 2 boxes of the new Peruvian ones. Those are the ones that "go" when people start filling in their order with extra bulbs to give away.

The past couple of years, the quality of the bulbs from Peru seems to be a little less than the Dutch bulbs -- but at $5 rather than $8, it's a slip I can live with.

Jill, I'm interested in a bin display box of 75 Narcissi double mixture size 12-14cm. I think they're like $27.50.

You got it! I planted a bunch of mixed doubles a while back (when I first "tried out" ADR, the year before our first co-op with them). I planted in big clumps rather than 1 by 1, and all the colors continue to look really wonderful together as they multiply.

Would the pick up be around the same time as last year? Dianna

Question for you tulip buyers... do they come back eliably year after year, or do you just take them up when done flowering and plant fresh in the fall?

For the most part, mine have NOT come back year after year. I am treating them as annuals. Other people have had more reliability. I half way wonder if I am not planting them deep enough. FWIW, I've heard that the Darwin hybrids are supposed to be more perennial than others. The only one that has seemed to come back multiple years so far for me is all the Esperanto and some of the China Town.
