Thread OP

Here's a doozie for y'all, lol. I'm in need of a bush/shrub/small tree for in front of garage window that meets the following criteria:
-Needs to be between 4'-6' tall (no more than 8')
-Evergreen
-Grows in shade (in a flower bed but the sun doesn't touch this area)
-If it flowers, it needs to flower white
-No holly
-Prefer no crepe myrtle, but I'm afraid that's my only option

I'm in Northwest Alabama. Show me what y'all think will work!!

How about a Tea Olive, Osmanthus fragrans. Newer varieties like O. Fudingzhu have larger flowers while retaining the sweet scent. They usually bloom in the fall and spring.

Another good possibility is a compact camellia cultivar, such as this one:

You didn't mention your zone, so if it's lower than zone 7, that may not work (although planting areas close to a building are often a bit warmer than, say, out in the yard). There may be other compact cultivars with white blooms that would work... this particular camellia was bred in your state, so if you have doubts about its suitability, you could contact the breeder, or ask at a reputable local nursery:

Have fun deciding,
Virginia
