Back when we were All Things Plants, I had my laptop set so that I stayed logged in to the site but now I can't seem to figure out how to do that. This old blonde would really appreciate tips about where to look in my laptop settings to figure out how I can stay logged in to the site. Green Grin!

I forgot to say, I mostly use Firefox 59.0.1 but I also have Chrome 66.0.3359.181 if either of those things are of importance. Confused

I log into garden.org with either of those browsers and don't log out but when I quit the browser; it automatically logs me out and I have to log back in each time ... it really would be nice to stay logged in all the time as I did in the past. Green Grin!

I don't know about Chrome as I rarely use it and then only on my phone, but I do use Firefox and its default is to delete all cookies when you close the browser. If that's the problem you would need to either disable that or else let autofill put in your ID and password so that you only need to give that the OK.

The only cookies I know about are in my cupboard. Hmm, think I'll go get one.

@Bonehead, I'm with you ... I do much better with the edible kind of cookies. Smiling

I did look through some of the Firefox Preference Settings but I'm afraid to mess with anything because I'd probably just get them all scrambled and not know how to fix them ... and then I'd have to wait for the family tech (my husband) to find time to get things in order again. Green Grin!

Usually when you enter a username and password for a website, your browser asks if you want to "remember" or "save" the information. I use edge and chrome and both of these browsers do that, not sure about firefox. If you do choose to "remember", the next time you log in to that web site you won't be prompted to enter a username and password. At least that is how it has been working for me Shrug!

I use that option for my casual sites. Do not use that option on your banking site!

Hi Lin,

Sounds like your Firefox is set either to clear the cache or not keep cookies upon closing. "Cookies" (in this context) are small files that keep site-specific information (like login session status) but also can be used by advertising companies to track people around the web.

You can change the settings as follows:

1. Select Options from the "Hamburger" Menu:
Thumb of 2018-05-24/Australis/664342

2. On the left hand side of the options window, select "Privacy and Security":
Thumb of 2018-05-24/Australis/e1a653

3. Make sure "Clear history when Firefox closes" is not ticked.
4. Make sure "Accept cookies and site data from web sites" is selected. To limit tracking (without installing extra addons), I make sure that "Accept third-party cookies and site data" is set to "From Visited". This means that only the sites you actually visit are allowed to store cookies in your browser's cache.

Hopefully this helps solve the problem for you.

Note that you do not need to have your browser remember logins or passwords for you for this to work. That setting allows the browser to store the username and password of a site so that when the site prompts you to log in, the browser can fill those fields automatically. I never have this enabled, especially on my laptop, just in case somebody can get access to it.
