You can clearly see the flat stem behind it, bloom is all wrong too.

Any suggestions as to what genus?

I see Epiphyllum in the title of this thread. That would go along with flat stems, but I'm not the right person to ask about the ID of this plant.

Thanks Baja, missed that! It does resemble the popular Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum)

Looks like E. oxypetalum to me too. The problem with identifying epiphyllums is that there are sooo many and of those, there are many with similar blooms. The E. oxypetalum's bloom is somewhat cup shaped when viewed from the side, but that doesn't help in regards to the picture here. It does have a rather flat stem, especially compared to most epiphyllums.

Another problem with identifying epiphyllums is the use of common names. E. oxypetalum has been called 'Queen of the Night', 'Night blooming cereus' and 'Dutchman's pipe'.

Edited to add: Selenicererus is not an epiphyllum.

Dont really know where this is going, but i saw this photo of a plant looking like an epiphyllum posted under selenicereus grandflorus subsp. grandiflorus, and saw something was odd. Thus , i posted this topic. The plant in question has flat stems, and blooms resembling those of an epiphyllum. Not selenicereus grandiflorus, which has wider blooms and round spiny stems...
dont know what you should do with the photo, i just pointed out that the plant featured in it and the title are a mismatch.

I think new member (Abhiasus) who uploaded the photo, did so to the incorrect database entry. Although I cannot see any stems in the photo in question, the bloom doesn't seem to be a match for Selenicereus grandiflorus and as stated, Selenicereus has round stems and thorns whereas, Epiphyllum has broad, flat stems/leaves and no thorns.

I'm not real good at identifying, unless I've grown the plant and I have grown Epiphyllum over the years. I thought it might help new member Abhiasus to see side by side photos with the comparison.

I have em both. Germinated selenicereus from a reliable source, had an epiphyllum for a while(but not thriving). Did buy seed, but will try to grow them in September.

Stefan - Although you're in a different part of Europe, you're closer than I am to Sweden, Germany, and the UK. If you're interested, send me a treemail and I can put you in touch with some top notch growers and hybridizers. Know some in the US but don't know about shipping regulations. I did, however, get some cuttings from Sweden without a problem, but that was about 5 years ago.

I think it was good that you brought up the possible naming conflict so no worries about doing so.

Im not in the EU. Cuttings will need phyto certificate, I only buy seed. Probably the only plant i would buy now, if it was cost-efficient would be pereskiopsis....
Sorry to disappoint....

I moved it to the Epiphyllum oxypetalum so this doesn't get lost. If it's ever confirmed that it's incorrect, it can always be moved again.

My E. Oxypetalum, assuming it is an Oxypetalum, is still quite young. Thought I'd take a picture or two of some of the stems too show how flat they are.




Note: Had to crop these pictures big time because of all the crapola in my sunroom. The pictures look worse when enlarged. I can snap some better shots tomorrow if they're needed for the Plants Database. Please don't add these. I think I can do better.

Don't remember where I got it. It's rare to find a nursery that sells epiphyllum in the entire Dallas-Ft.Worth area. Maybe I got it from a friend on Facebook. Or wait. I think I got it at a DG Round Up. At one time it was a much bigger plant but I almost killed it. What you see is what I was able to rescue.

EDITED TO ADD: Just got around to looking at the pictures of E. oxy. in the Plants Database. Think it's definitely a match.
